I can believe this as iv witnessed an area manager berate a DOM in the most disrespectful way in front of myself. To the point of tears. I was shocked to say the least.

Our managers recently had to go on a course in Leeds to learn to 'Have meaningful conversations with their staff'

You have to remember, managers are just mouthpieces for those above them and unfortunately we are at the bottom of this giant ponsi s**t scheme.
All they are paid to do is their masters bidding, without question and no discussions. They might appear to care about you, but they don't really.
Who to blame, well the managers in place are spineless feckers for not firstly standing up and saying these are unachievable and secondly putting in the correct information everyday to highlight when the dutys don't get completed or don't go out at all.
We all know they fiddle the books, but then again should we really care?
We all have contracts and as long as we fulfil our weekly hours anything else is our choice and how they fill those hours is up to them.
I know it's instilled in us all to "complete" but the company has changed the rules so we may as well change too.

These so called managers, who let's face it are 95% failed posties originally, have destroyed the mostly dedicated, proud workforce that once was Royal Mail.

F**k them and their sh***y bonus culture.

They should be ashamed of themselves.

Most Posties in our depot get on well and help each other out. We tease each other but it's never malicious. It's always the managers that have a problem and like to pick on us, despite everyone doing their best under enormous pressure.

It doesn't matter how efficient you are or how much overtime you do, they'll always expect more from you.

Not sure it’s as simple as that. A lot of us think we’re above the work and therefore feel under appreciated. It’s just a job, treat it that way and attitudes will improve.

Regarding increasing the size of rounds to impossible levels, don’t forget RM’s initial plan of “Commit to Deliver”. I’m sure that was the primary goal of their botched revisions, and probably the best thing the CWU managed to avoid.

It wasn't always like this.
I remember when I actually liked coming into work, taking pride in doing my job to the best of my ability, managers happy, staff happy, customers happy.
Then, about 20 years ago, a continuous cycle of cuts, changes to working practises, and a profound decrease in respect for workers on the shop floor began.
Which has led us to the job/company we have today.

I would love to know what the upper management are saying to our office managers.... does anybody have any insight?

- Do the managers above actually think the rounds are doable because they look at data and according to them the data is the only thing that matters?

- Do they know the rounds are too big but want to pressure office managers to do whatever is necessary to get the rounds done.... harass posties to rush round, or go over time?


I don't understand the rolled eyes and 'why' question when we bring stuff back because the rounds are excessively big. It gets nowhere.

All they look at is the PDA data, add it up for the whole office and say "X amount of hours" could have been saved this week, as we all know, it doesn't work like that.

My round is 2 and a half hours over if they done commit to deliver that would take me over the european working time directive

We all just laugh at our DOM because all the nonsense he spouts is comedy gold, dont think it will be long before this one has a break down too.Personally i think laughing at them and their idea's is the best way forward

I left RM over a year ago and the toxic workplace was part of the reason.

There was bullying from managers, partly caused because they didn't have a clue how to talk to people. Most of them were what I'd call "workload managers" rather than "people managers", so they couldn't deal with people who said they couldn't complete the work. Towards the end I appreciated that they were being bullied by their managers, and again because the hiarchy have no idea how to manage people.

There was also a lot of bullying from other posties. Too many were more than happy to gob off and criticise people who were struggling, rather than go to help them. My mental health issues were well known within the office and a fair number of posties used it as a reason to take the piss. The attitude of some just stank - and it was usually the runners and corner cutters who were the worst. Even the union rep made a few comments against me before he realised how the atmosphere had affected me
