Maybe. But knowing RM which would they rather cull? Senior posties with better contracts, aches/pains/limps, doesn't mind an argument with a colleague or manger, maybe even doesn't drive or drive for RM? Knows what "cutting off" is and how to do it properly?

Or a younger person that is on a new contract, can drive for RM (better for P&L/LAT/nip off to do a 9am Special/Sunday shift/now Saturday only parcels maybe??). And they don't feel the job at the moment and bounce into the office in the morning, just do what they are told to do without comment? Think they must stay out until the van is empty? Hmmmm.

Newer staff don't have the knowledge and I've seen them doing loops near the DO looking slightly lost. Probably can't find the house number and perhaps only vaguely aware that the current letter in their hand is a mis-sort for another loop or duty (e.g., they are on X Street and the letter is for X Road which is the other side of town) and they should just move on to the next letter. However, RM will put up with that and are probably happy losing all the knowledge about where you can leave things, or that number 12 will take a parcel for number 8 (because they are the same family), or that number 21 works at the shops round the corner and you can drop it off there (or are we all in the mode of "deliver as addressed!"). It'll be mayhem but whatever.

I don't think seniority equals security with what may be coming round the corner.

I've been here 3 weeks and can't believe how down everyone is. 47 people left the depot this year.

And for balance the more senior duty holders in my office can't sort for toffee these days, ballsed up revisions with no resigns. They know and acknowledge the changes to their frames that they've been on for 10+ years and that's it.

Same here since last revision I've not been on ips or packets only prep so for nearly 30 years service I have no clue who does what anymore....(I only ever prep the same 3 walk's everyday)

Doesn't help when the last revision jammed bits of the removed walks onto the end of all the frames. If they do that again with the next revision then we're getting to the point where the walks have no relation to geography - different postcodes scrambled all over the place and oppsite ends of town next to each other.

Also, the floating duties these days are a random mix of walks, compared to pre-P&L when they were all neighbouring duties. Incompetence or malice? Both?

They have already done that at our office, some jobs have an extra couple of bags added that are 6 or 7 miles away from their original duty. The best bit is we have people doing duty’s on the west side of the city travelling miles through the city centre to get to an extra bit added on in the east side of the city and then people with duty’s in the east doing the reverse. Total incompetence.

They aren’t revisions. I’ve seen plenty of revisions and successful ones need time, planning, money and input from those with local knowledge. All they do now is take out whole walks and put random parts of them on the remaining walks in the most inefficient and illogical way. It’s just permanent lapsing, a way to take hours out of an office in the quickest and most simple way.
