Can anyone clarify....the engine warning light has been on for a few days now. What do you need to check?

Report to a manager who can contact the workshop to confirm whether or not it's ok to drive it, is there a handbook in the glovebox so you can check what the light indicates ?

You've got to cover yourself in case it's something serious.

That needs a pmt1 filling in (amber engine light) then book it in through fleet for your local workshop to diagnose.
Does it also need a regen?

The engine re-generation symbol is a bit like a fish.

Takes about 10 mins, where the van auto-revs to 2,000 rpm.

If a warning light is on before you leave the yard, anything that goes wrong with the vehicle will be your fault ! The diagnostics will record when any warnings come up, do you think manager will be sympathetic when the vehicle has to be recovered at great expense - he’ll be looking for someone to blame and send them down conduct code. If manager says it’s OK to take out, ask for that in writing to cover yourself !

Joking apart we're down to three of these piles of shite now and they're known for using oil, one of them needs topping up every other week so if the issue is it's low on oil then you need to get it reported, if it fails due to no oil which should have been picked up on the van check then you'd be right in the firing line.

If it’s low on oil then there is a separate warning light for that. Regardless the vehicle should not be driven until the issues have been resolved.

^^ This - and not just the Doblo's. Several of our wagons come up with random engine warning lights that disappear after driving for
a bit or come up with oil low lights which come up at random (not necessarily going round corners or at start up) even though dipstick check says the levels are good. The wagons go into the garage for routine servicing/MOT with faults PMT'd but come out exactly the same.

I can't believe that a few years ago RM were encouraging us to get our own private vehicles looked at in some of our garages for a fee!

This. Got a couple at our place with the light on/off/on and it's the DPF needing a regen - goes into limp mode sluggish as hell, takes 10 mins to to a regen forget the method to do it but you can initiate it yourself by turning it off/on with your foot on the gas.

I’m sure these came off the production line with the engine management light on. Our manager told us all that it’s ok if it’s an amber engine management light on and it’s only a problem if it’s red even though there isn’t a red one

Whilst the advice to pass the onus onto the COM as to whether or not a vehicle is either drivable or roadworthy is fine as far as it goes, however,think on this: warning lights come on for a reason , that’s why they should be inspected to ascertain why and remedy any fault , if the workshop says it’s all fine you have the audit trail to back you up. However if your COM says a vehicle is drivable and you get stopped by the Highways Agency or plod and they deem otherwise, is your COM going to pay your fine and take your points? When all is said and done it’s your licence on the line not theirs, just remember that.
