Regarding the Amazon comparison, a lot of long term postie's well into their fifties just looking to get to 60 and possibly retire/semi retire with part pension may well see the a couple of years driving delivering parcel's as a n acceptable compromise to the alternative of 5 hour and possibly longer daily walks. Your body will definitely thank you for it.

I was a postie for 20 years and was ihr this year due to rm and the levels of stress that came with the job.
Since leaving ive started my own business that's doing well
And providing me a better wage plus a far better quality of life.
I now have a weekend..don't have to wake up in the middle of the night to go to work, and every niggle I had in my knee/hip and lower back have miraculously disappeared!!!
I thought I would be a postie until retirement and in a weird twist of fate if rm hadn't destroyed itself then I would still be there.
Just want to say that rm isn't the only job out there and to think outside the Box if you are thinking of leaving try something else/re-train the world doesn't just consist of amazon dpd and royalfail.

Would guess the only new starts who could be interested, are Amazon drivers etc who already do shite hours Inc Sundays. The change from paying for everything themselves, could attract them. The standard postie delivery job will attract no one (long term) meaning real problems in the future.
You are joking, my friends brother works for them and can work when he likes and still betters my pay every week. More a less flexible and no way as hard he said. No letters just parcels around 100 to 130 a day and gets more than the average postie. We have fallen behind. What is the average full time uk wage? Is it £29000 ? Have a look at some southern posties who are barely surviving. It’s tough down south
If they are delivering that many parcels it will take a minimum if 10 hours, probably a lot more as I doubt they’ll all be in a confined area. No thanks.
That many drops they will all be in built up residential areas. I followed one down a close yesterday, 52 houses down there. He did 13 drops in the time I was there, parcel at door knock and go. It wouldn’t take long at all to get rid of 100 odd parcels.

Fair enough, but you’ve also got the hire cost of their van to consider, also if you damage it then apparently it’s a grand you have to pay. You can hire/ buy your own but that’s costly too

So he had a good day. What about when the parcels are all in different roads spread apart, which is more usual.
Job and knock, and 120 drops a day are mutually exclusive, and that's why they're still out at 7pm on Winter evenings..

Time wise there is a huge difference in getting rid of 100 parcels on LAT compared to a duty.

LAT would be near impossible, I've done over a hundred duty parcels in 4 hours before. Lots of tracked go through letter boxes.

A few weeks back I did all the tracked for two rounds on a Saturday and was done with over 2 hours to spare, ended up going back out with the post. More fool me...

Say what you want about new starters, at least they quit if they aren’t happy, not constantly bitch and moan about the job like a good proportion of veterans, who hang around becoming more bitter by the day.

Thant’s not the case at my office. We have had and continue to have very long serving posties resigning every week. The dom said to me yesterday I’m dreading Monday, we might as well turn the lights out and shut for good. We have no staff and any new ones are leaving within a week or can’t be bothered and take all day out there and bring most of it back. When I started we had never heard the word cut off, and was quicker when it was earlier and not 35c

Exactly, most Amazon drivers are out until late.

I took VR in march, I had been in Royal Mail for 20 years and loved the job. However it's changing beyond all recognition, and it's time for me to move on and try something else.
It is indeed a sinking ship, but there are definitely other options out there. I'm doing an apprenticeship for an NHS job, will be a change in direction with qualifications and the chance to earn lots more and specialise.
Anyone that's worried about leaving, just spruce up your CV and start applying. Get on Indeed, look on council, university and NHS jobs websites and start applying.
You will have many rejections, but interviews will come, and with practice you will eventually land the job.
And if not, well you always have Royal Mail. It's a numbers game. Good luck!

Only the perpetual whiners, who continue to grumble non-stop but never do anything about it because they realise they are unemployable elsewhere. This is still an easy job for decent pay and despite the moaning, they know it, and realise they are better off. It is also no different to people on here constantly demeaning agency workers and new starters.
