4 starting next week lets see if they are still here at Christmas pressure
It will be minimal training
Put on a round that didn’t go out previous day. They will make a supreme effort to clear it. Pat them selves on back for doing it.
Moved next day from what they thought they’d be doing onto another round that didn’t go out.
Get to end of week knackered and demoralised and Jack it in
Don't know what it's been like for training in DOs but over the years in MCs newbies get the H&S training (the RM covering their ass stuff) then it's here's the frame, here's the work, get on with it

My last day is tomorrow after 25 years service, RM isn't what it used to be.
I hope for the sake of the rest of my colleagues, that someone intervenes and makes the service better again.
I thought I would be in with the bricks until retirement, however I have decided to get out now while I can.
Don't let this job get hold of you, there is many talented postmen/women out there.
There is better jobs available with a work life balance that we all want.
You deserve to be treated better than just being a number for a firm that only cares for its shareholders.
All the best to all of you, you deserve better :)
Great, positive post.
Good luck for the future. 👍
Thanks Dexydog
Just wanted others to realise that their is more to life than this institution that we we all including myself can be sucked in by.
Hopefully others can share stories like someone else posted, to give positive outcomes of their new job and show others that it is possible to jump ship .
Don't get me wrong its a scary prospect after 25 years service.
However my missus made a valid point today, jumping from a sinking ship onto a lifeboat is scary, however what would you rather do?

RM jobs page has probably never had so many vacancies. I just cannot think why they're struggling to recruit

Would guess the only new starts who could be interested, are Amazon drivers etc who already do shite hours Inc Sundays. The change from paying for everything themselves, could attract them. The standard postie delivery job will attract no one (long term) meaning real problems in the future.
We have had 2 lads go to Amazon in the last 6 months. Both happy there and say they are earning more. It’s job and knock as well.

RM are terrified of October
Oh, are we getting the guillotine out of storage? :nana

Legal note: If the police aren't too busy searching for an escapee, that was a joke.
The machine stops.

You are joking, my friends brother works for them and can work when he likes and still betters my pay every week. More a less flexible and no way as hard he said. No letters just parcels around 100 to 130 a day and gets more than the average postie. We have fallen behind. What is the average full time uk wage? Is it £29000 ? Have a look at some southern posties who are barely surviving. It’s tough down south

If they are delivering that many parcels it will take a minimum if 10 hours, probably a lot more as I doubt they’ll all be in a confined area. No thanks.

An Amazon guy actually knocked on my door at 20:46 last night to drop off a couple of bits. He wasn't done yet either and had to travel back home as he wasn't local. The grass isn't always greener. I'm sure there are some benefits but a cannot see Amazon as this benevolent employer that truly cares about it's employees - it is perhaps that they have more money right now and would probably love to squeeze RM by stealing some staff.

There are different ways of working for Amazon. You can be contracted to work x amount of hours a week or you can do Amazon flex, which doesn't guarantee hours.

It shows how bad things have got.
We are actually discussing whether Amazon would be a better employer to work for.
Obviously they aren't but the fact this debate even has legs shows how job satisfaction has hit an all time low for allot of us.
