My manager told me today we have had 4 more resignations today. They are leaving like his never seen it before in 35 years. We have 40% staff . We are are very large office. He told me he may be next and if it wasn’t for the bottle he buys every night to get him through who knows.

My last day is tomorrow after 25 years service, RM isn't what it used to be.
I hope for the sake of the rest of my colleagues, that someone intervenes and makes the service better again.
I thought I would be in with the bricks until retirement, however I have decided to get out now while I can.
Don't let this job get hold of you, there is many talented postmen/women out there.
There is better jobs available with a work life balance that we all want.
You deserve to be treated better than just being a number for a firm that only cares for its shareholders.
All the best to all of you, you deserve better :)

Six new starters in last couple of months.
Five never turned up one lasted a couple of days.
Can't really see how Royal Mail sort out recruitment now.
Severely understaffed offices coupled with exploitation from managers is making it an unappealing prospect for the newbies.
Vicious circle.
Also the terms aren't great and Sunday working.
Real problem for the company.
Can't see it getting better any time soon.

I think a lot of people feel trapped whether they say it or not. Many have been working there for a very long time and cannot imagine doing, or being capable of doing something else. Many may not realise they are in fact institutionalised (it's not their fault, they thought they had a good job for life).

If any ex-employees can explain what life looks like outside RM it may help some that will be having a genuine fear of quitting. Maybe start a new thread to group all the replies.

It will be minimal training
Put on a round that didn’t go out previous day. They will make a supreme effort to clear it. Pat them selves on back for doing it.
Moved next day from what they thought they’d be doing onto another round that didn’t go out.
Get to end of week knackered and demoralised and Jack it in

RM are terrified of October, they know a large amount of people are holding off till they get the £1400. Recruiting isn't going well, they have painted themselves into a corner with the new terms and conditions. The business they have lost due to the strikes has not returned, but this is now down to the poor quality of service, not the treat of strike action. They are completely at a loss of what to do.

Would guess the only new starts who could be interested, are Amazon drivers etc who already do shite hours Inc Sundays. The change from paying for everything themselves, could attract them. The standard postie delivery job will attract no one (long term) meaning real problems in the future.
