Royal Mail apology after residents blast 'joke' delivery service in parts of Nuneaton

Furious residents have branded Royal Mail deliveries in parts of Nuneaton a 'joke'. They say that pockets of the town have been left without mail for weeks and, as a result, some have missed important hospital appointments and bills.

One area especially hard hit has been Galley Common, particularly around the new housing estates. One resident, who did not want to be named, said that they were forced to send over 30 complaints.

"We were told to collect our post but they didn't have it ready to give," the resident said. "My neighbour went down and a postman told him it was a complete mess and our letters were being lost and just thrown in a box!

"We sent over 30 complaints and oddly a postman turned up on Saturday with a huge van full of letters it's becoming a joke now for everyone all over our town." Another said: "We go months on end with no post, only parcels and letters that are tracked. We have been told it's hit and miss whether they’ll hand over mail if you go to the sorting office.

"People are missing important doctors/hospital appointments along with important documentation." It is not the first time that not only the Galley Common area, but also wider Nuneaton, has been hit with delivery issues. As we reported in our newsletter, Nuneaton's MP Marcus Jones complained to the regulator after being contacted by a 'significant number of constituents' about not having mail for weeks - or just once a week.

'Expect to see the service improve'
CoventryLive contacted Royal Mail and a spokesman apologised and said that staffing issues were behind the recent problems. But they stressed that they hope to have more staff onboard within the month.

"We are sorry to residents in Nuneaton who have experienced delays. Improving quality of service is our top priority and we are committed to restoring service levels to where our customers expect them to be," the Royal Mail spokesperson said.

“There have been some recent delays at the local delivery office, in part caused by staffing levels. Every effort is being made to keep delays to a minimum. In areas such as Galley Common the service is returning to normal with daily deliveries occurring.

“We have a recruitment plan in place and intend to have more staff employed at the office within the month. We hope and expect to see the service improve further moving forward."

Obviously its staffing issues you got rid of 1000's and haven't replaced others that have left, someone up top is making s**t loads of savings and nicking the money while ofcom sit on their ass or are they taking a backhander, nothing would surprise me in this country at the moment, one thing customers can be sure of is Royal Mail are not sorry.Wonder if the customers know their leaflets are being binned, they take the money but dont deliver it,tracked 24 nd 48 they take your money but dont deliver 1st class again take your money but dont deliver ,in my book this is theft and they get away with it ,personally id bring in the police.
