Where we are!!

Yet again i feel the need to get posties views and fears on us going forward.
I think we can all see where RM intend to head in the direction of, a 5 day USO commitment, but again if you don't make the duties achievable it doesn't matter how many days the USO is you will still fail them.
So where do we go from here?
I know what RM would like, a commit to deliver and annualised hours, but seeing as how that isn't going to happen i don't know where they go either.
Having a start and finish time is a fundamental right i could never give up, nor would i expect anyone too.
Lets hope the union think that too.
Seasonal hours is bollocks and thrown in the agreement when they couldn't get annualised in. Hell they tried to get out of it last week that's how much they want it.

I would say a 15% cull in staff is the plan either the remaining doing whatever over 7 days (clear packets 7 days and mop up letters on whatever remains)

To be honest I wouldn't stress about it.
What is happening is being driven by something that's outside our control, the fact that stuffing pieces of paper through people's doors is becoming as irrelevant as the landline telephone gathering dust in the corner of the room.

I got rid of my landline phone a couple of years ago because when it did ring it was someone trying to sell me s**t I didn't ask for, to be fair if it wasn't for small packets I would seal up my letterbox for the same reason. Maybe people will start to do that.

There is no future in letters so the USO will have to reflect that, we need to concentrate our fight on building a parcel business and protecting the jobs and terms we can, not chaining ourselves to the equivalent of VHS tapes.

Lots of businesses would disagree that its irrelevant Woody, it's like folk saying advertising dosnt work. Are you going to get rid of your email address too so people dont try to sell you stuff ? Or even get rid of your interweb connection? I mean nobody gets adverts on here?

There's still many years of letters left 8 BILLION letters deliverd in 2022 not million(billion) thats still a s**t load,it only takes 1 day for letters on your frame to not go out and it snowballs quite quickly,and your f****d if your on holiday for the week,everyone agrees they are gonna plane out at a certain level which I think will still be in the billions personally I think they are exaggerating just to rid more staff which is there goal.

I don't know about you, but our office has essentially run a 5 day service for over 2 years now. There is no day-off cover. Mail and standard parcels only goes out the door 5 days a week. So Royal Mail dropping to a 5 day USO wouldn't make any difference in our office. In fact, it would probably be a good thing.

I can't see commit to deliver ever happening. How can it happen. If you come back from a weeks annual leave and your round hasn't gone out for the past 2 days because the office is understaffed, you cannot be expected to deliver 3 days of mail - that would be ridiculous. This is common in our office when people come back from their long weekends, their round hasn't been touched from sat to mon.

Not sure if this article has been seen or talked about on these forums, but yesterday this came about Saturday deliveries potentially being relaxed...

It's all good and well claiming mail is down and that we should consider going down to a 5 day service.... but when you have already made our rounds 45 minutes bigger and made them impossible to complete on a day to day basis....then how can we go to a 5 day service if we are struggling to complete our rounds. If we are struggling to complete as it is - then there is clearly too much mail to deliver.

I think we could start by ditching the Down Stream Access agreement and start getting the full price for the letters that we have. Why we are still doing it i dont know. Some days 90% of my frame is DSA.

If all the rounds were the same as they were years ago I would of said maybe. However, in the space of nearly 2-3 years they've shafted a s**t ton of walks onto each other to compensate for not hiring enough staff in the first place and more likely lower tier management getting their 30 pieces of silver for doing so. Therefore, making the walks unachievable now.

The natural thing for them would have been either this years ago, or giving the shorter working week like it was originally planned. However, they chose option C, Operation f**k up and then tried to force all these changes at once. If it's that much of a decline, then I'd say the letters would still be getting delivered on time. The reason RM is campaigning for a five day service is cuz they WANT it, not out of NECESSITY.
