ok we have been told that mon to fri is definitely coming in around October/ November. Everyone accept this its going to be good for some bad for others.
The long term implications are quite massive. I'm just your average postperson and can see the long term effects of this.
This raises the question if i can see it why is our CWU not on top of it.

A permanent reduction yes, but if RM plead utter destitution and imply they can't provide a service otherwise, OFCOM can
permit temporary exception to the USO - it's in the Postal Services Act 2011. After all, who's going to provide a mail service if RM won't/can't.

Read into any of these rumours whatever you want, we have already done it while the pandemic was full-on so i can't really see why they won't try to get it enforced temporarily as a financial stopgap.
You got to remember they don't really give a flying feck what anybody thinks as long as they make a few million more.
The temporary 5 day uso goes really well and suddenly it's no longer temporary but the norm and it's enshrined for eternity.
RM is not a job for the future for anybody looking for a decent work/life balance, and eventually everyones mail will go the same way as our pay packets, they will find it on RM workplace and have to log on to our Lord and Masters website to read their mail and order their redeliveries/collections at the same time.
All in the name of progress!!

Won't be all round as anything that's not a letter, flat or D2D will still need delivering on Saturdays (wouldn't surprise me if RM bring in mandatory rotas for Sunday working, even if in theory they aren't allowed to)

All that would be delivered on Saturdays would be tracked and specials like what happens now Monday to Saturday when they can't cover rounds, the premium products. Nothing covered by the uso would be going anywhere. And as for the mandatory Sunday working, won't happen. The people who cover Sundays on overtime now get paid for doing next to nothing. They've got loads of people with Sundays in their contracts and they will be the ones doing them soon enough, all the coms have been told as much already

Some rumours going round our office about this. Some staff are convinced Mon-Fri will happen soon. I'm not convinced. For one the USO would surely have to be abolished which requires government to sign off on this. If it is going to happen it won't be anytime soon.

People on here keep saying “the government need to sign off on this” etc - but isn't the point that Royal Mail will simply ignore the USO and happily pay the fines?
