Dealing with Problematic Casuals
Hi, Where I work there are a number of casuals who are very difficult to work with and quite problematic in their approach to full time people like myself. If the boot was on the other foot, there would be complaints on poor treatment to them.
Any suggestions on what to do would be very welcome.

Re: Dealing with Problematic Casuals
From what I have seen, it is regular contracted staff who are dismissive of agency staff and treat them like dirt.

Re: Dealing with Problematic Casuals
Sorry, I would have to disagree. A number of regular staff I work try very hard to integrate casuals and treat them well but they still treat these regulars like dirt.
The way some of these casuals act leads to the way some regular staff feel on them.

I think you need to say what these problems are, before people can advise.

Re: Dealing with Problematic Casuals
The issue with casuals is in the name (especially the younger ones) it’s casual work so they treat it that way, maybe lighten up it’s only a job, and if the s**t hits the fan….blame it on the casual

Re: Dealing with Problematic Casuals
Much like my experience in two stints as a 30 hour part timer. I lost count of the number of times I heard "effing part timers" from full time staff. One of the many divides within the workforce that meant the company would always come out on top.
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

We had 8 new starters all taxi drivers, all now left apart from 1 & he's about ready, apparently he doesn't like being a passenger when paired up, he likes to be in control

General attitude, rudeness, not wanting to help and being often in their own cliques for a start. Treatingn some people who are polite to them, like complete dirt. A sense of enttitlment taht they can do no wrong.

Technically casuals only exist during Xmas pressure as for the rest of the year, they're actually agency (Angard)

Heard that most or all agency staff are going by September, should leave us well under staffed - with a glorious Christmas around the corner. No doubt they'll ask them to come back on board for Santa. Most of the ones ive met are ok workwise apart from not working Saturdays.

Is that just your local office? If it isn't any idea if it's just DOs or if it's MCs as well?ANDREW CROCOMBE wrote: ↑28 Aug 2023, 20:56Heard that most or all agency staff are going by September, should leave us well under staffed - with a glorious Christmas around the corner. Think our office are getting rid next week, but some have been offered the new family friendly DPR jobs. Not sure if it's nationwide.

Re: Dealing with Problematic Casuals
I think you have to give the benifit of doubt to most agency workers, the problem is rarely them, the problem is the useless COM's that plague RM. Put yourself in their shoes for 5 mins. No job security, no sickpay, no training, and no motivation. They're normally just dumped on the most problematic walks in the office by a COM and told to get on with it
