Royal Mail launches safe place delivery preferences for residents

Our customers can now set up a safe place delivery preference in the Royal Mail app for all future parcel deliveries. This enables customers receiving parcels to tell their postie where to leave their parcels when they are not in and when the item doesn’t fit through the letterbox.
The safe place needs to be secure, weatherproof, easily accessible and out of sight. Any parcel that doesn’t require a signature can be left in a safe place.

Residents can set their delivery preferences in the Royal Mail app in the ‘my account’ section. There are five default options to choose from including enclosed porch, greenhouse, shed, garage or outbuilding. Customers can also use the free text ‘other’ option.

Nick Landon, chief commercial officer, says because our posties deliver to every house in the UK so frequently, no-one knows better where their customers like parcels to be left if they are not in.

'Now we’re making that delivery service even better by giving everyone the ability to record their favourite safe place on the Royal Mail app. We’ll use that preference for every subsequent delivery to give you even more control.

'It won’t stop there though. We are working on additional options to make deliveries even more convenient, such as a preferred neighbouring address and additional options for customers with accessibility needs,' he said.

Doesn't this go against mails integrity? if a postie can gain access to deliver it to a "safe place" then someone else can gain access to the "safe place" to steal it

The only secure safeplace is one of those dedicated lockable parcel boxes anything else gets a card,no behind flowerpots,if a porch door can be open then enclosed porch shouldn't even be on the choices,just play safe guys card everyone then spend 30 minutes next day redelivering,means less walking. Until the boss signs something to say i can leave it here there or everywhere you will be getting a card.

If the chosen option is done and a photo proves that you followed that request, I would think RM would struggle to discipline anyone. What RM really need to do is limit the options so people cannot put stupid requests down.

Is this the 'Delivery Info' icon when you're on the delivery screen. It's a bit confusing because I've had the 'Delivery Info' icon available
for any DP that has a parcel on Coronation Street but the 'Delivery Info' is only relevant for number 2 Coronation Street! I was pressing
the delivery info icon for number 10 to see where they wanted the item placing but the delivery info was only for number 2.

If they don't sort this I can see reserves/agency leaving stuff where it shouldn't be left because they haven't read the screen properly.
The delivery info should only be available up when you scan an item for that particular address.

It wasnt long ago that we were being told that the sender was the customer and no matter what the recipient said about leaving it safe you could only do so if the sender had requested to leave safe, make your cocking mind up RM. +1 for what Phantom said
