LTB 213/23 - RMG/CWU Business Recovery, Transformation And Growth Agreement - Appendix 1 Seasonal Variation
No. 213/23
August 21st 2023
Dear Colleagues,
RMG/CWU Business Recovery, Transformation And Growth Agreement – Appendix 1 – Seasonal Variation
Further to LTB 191/23 (Letter To Branches) issued on the 18th July, which advised Branches and Representatives in terms of moving forward the commitments contained in the Business Transformation, Recovery and Growth Agreement in relation to Appendix 1, Seasonal Variation, and the very challenging timelines linked to this aspect of the agreement.
For the ongoing information and attention of Branches, Representatives, and members alike, please find attached the following: –
Annex 1 – National Seasonal Variation FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) Document Version 2
This is an updated version of the FAQ document attached to LTB 191/23, which includes a number of new FAQs based on initial feedback with the new Questions & Answers listed from 41 onwards.https://www.cwu.org/wp-content/uploads/ ... ion-Do.pdf
Annex 2 – National Seasonal Variation WTLL Briefing Go Live Update
This is a further WTLL briefing to be issued and which confirms the ‘high season’ (under Seasonal Variation) will start on Monday 4th September and run until Sunday 17th December, returning to the normal attendance patterns on Monday 18th December 2023. https://www.cwu.org/wp-content/uploads/ ... Update.pdf
Again, and in setting out the above, it is clear that there remains a number of wider questions from members in terms of Seasonal Variation. Therefore, we believe that the attached FAQ will assist in answering any of these outstanding questions and further offer clarification on what Seasonal Variation is, and what it is not. It is also important to further remind ourselves that Seasonal Variation is far removed from Royal Mail’s Annualised Hours and Total Flexibility plans, which were a key aspect of the National dispute.
Any queries to the content of the above please contact the Outdoor Department reference 532, email address: njones@cwu.org
Yours sincerely,
Mick Kavanagh
Acting CWU Assistant Secretary

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Being eligible for overtime and getting it paid are mutually exclusive, therefore I shall continue with my mission to finish on time , every time. Thanks for the offer though.

Most posties are ever so grateful for the additional overtime that the company are able to provide to allow posties to complete their deliveries that have just been over-extended by the revisions
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Just putting something out there… COM told me this afternoon that as per regional conference call he’d just had that seasonal hours would no longer be starting next month… my initial reaction was to think that they have at last seen sense… but now , hearing rumours that Royal Mail want to suspend the USO (citing financial difficulties) it makes more sense…they’ve played the union again…CWU openly in agreement about reducing USO ( and willing to go to government alongside the company)… so company will just ignore USO obligations and continue the current chaos , probably until government intervene… so no need to vary seasonal attendance patterns as they don’t intend on delivering anything like the quality of service that they’re expected to…just saying
( I guess my point it’s that as soon as the union agreed / played ball re: uso reduction the game was over)

If it is now postponed I sense it's more to do with the fact PSP can't cope with the changes, given it can't even deal with the proposed changes to sick pay. If RM are going to ignore the USO I assume they'd have to give OFCOM/the Government a few months warning? Even if the USO is being ignored S/V still seems a good move for RM as they effectively get 2 hours free labour a week from their F/T workers.Poole70 wrote: ↑22 Aug 2023, 19:40Just putting something out there… COM told me this afternoon that as per regional conference call he’d just had that seasonal hours would no longer be starting next month… my initial reaction was to think that they have at last seen sense… but now , hearing rumours that Royal Mail want to suspend the USO (citing financial difficulties) it makes more sense…they’ve played the union again…CWU openly in agreement about reducing USO ( and willing to go to government alongside the company)… so company will just ignore USO obligations and continue the current chaos , probably until government intervene… so no need to vary seasonal attendance patterns as they don’t intend on delivering anything like the quality of service that they’re expected to…just saying
