Update From CWU
Well sort of, just received this WhatsApp message from our branch, hopefully ironing out some of the aspects of the agreement.
"Discussions with the employer have continued this week covering a range of issues, including the attendance procedure where National Officer Carl Maden has led meetings with the employer to resolve outstanding matters.
Talks have been broadly positive and they will continue early next week.
We are holding a Branch briefing on Monday where senior representatives will be updated on the latest developments.
We will then issue a full update to representatives and members.
Sorting the issues you are facing on a daily basis is the absolute focus of the union. Together, that is what we are going to do."

Re: Update From CWU
So basically it’s a thank you from the CWU for giving up your terms and conditions so they can still get paid to drink tea and eat biscuits and work out how to vaguely word it so it sounds like they’re doing something to earn the money we pay them

Re: Update From CWU
I like to have a warm up before I unleash my full criticism of how the CWU have helped cause the issues I face on a daily basis
And how now they’re championing a 5 day uso that, after speaking with my manager, means I will either have to work on parcels from 13.30- 18.30 which I can’t do so they’re actively championing something that’ll cost me my job
So I’m slightly disappointed with our Union but do feel a bit better after having a little vent on here
So if you don’t mind could you just piss off and leave me too it? Thanks

Re: Update From CWU
How can your manager tell you what you may have to do if the USO moves to 5 days when nobody as a clue what's going to happen if it ever does change. Regardless it's pretty obvious it'll move to 5 days eventually anyway.Jen1 wrote: ↑18 Aug 2023, 22:27I like to have a warm up before I unleash my full criticism of how the CWU have helped cause the issues I face on a daily basis

Re: Update From CWU
She said because if it goes to a 5 day uso they will no longer need cover duties as all the mail will be delivered mon-Fri so nobody will have a day off through the weekTopperGas wrote: ↑18 Aug 2023, 22:36How can your manager tell you what you may have to do if the USO moves to 5 days when nobody as a clue what's going to happen if it ever does change. I’m sure there’ll be some cover needed for holiday cover but I’ve been there 4 and a half years so I’m low on the seniority so it’s unlikely I’d get my own duty and others above me would get the holiday cover
But they will need parcels delivered
It makes sense really

Re: Update From CWU
The point she made makes clear that she already had a duty that was suitable, there was nothing to be sorted, but following the capitulation of the union, RM are bulldozing their way towards their version of utopia at increased pace. You’ll be able to witness this first hand when you’re redeployed onto deliveries in the near future

RM won't want any of us on deliveries. They'll want newbies on the inferior contracts and casualspinstripe wrote: ↑19 Aug 2023, 02:49The point she made makes clear that she already had a duty that was suitable, there was nothing to be sorted, but following the capitulation of the union, RM are bulldozing their way towards their version of utopia at increased pace. Re: Update From CWU
The fact is that the company is changing and sadly it doesn’t care if you have to pick up your kids from school or have other commitments. They seem to want an all size fits all approach with I do think is counter productive and it seems it isn’t bothered if people leave if they can’t do the job.
Sadly it’s a reality of modern times and working practices where the family unit isn’t valued as important and workers having kids is seen as an hindrance to companies.
Ironically many people do this job due to the family friendly hours I’ve seen a bigger increase in working mothers over the past 10 years due to the hours and now they want to get rid of one of the main attractions to the job.

That is their end game no doubt about that if you make letters 5 days then you can fill the weekends with a workforce on inferior terms.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Aug 2023, 07:44RM won't want any of us on deliveries. They don’t but the play is it means they avoid paying out VR. Most transferred from a MC won’t last long and will leave for free to be replaced by a new workforce on inferior contracts. Mission complete for RM.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Aug 2023, 07:44RM won't want any of us on deliveries. They'll want newbies on the inferior contracts and casuals

They are unable to keep new staff on the inferior contracts.Nickvilla20 wrote: ↑19 Aug 2023, 07:53That is their end game no doubt about that if you make letters 5 days then you can fill the weekends with a workforce on inferior terms.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Aug 2023, 07:44RM won't want any of us on deliveries. Most are choosing to remain on Agency books.
Those that are employed do not hang around for long.
So if you think RM’s “great plan” is working you would be wrong.
The CWU are not entirely right either, but are probably waiting for the s**t show that will occur some time in the future.
Profit is king, even with the failure of the USO the shareholders & board will recieve their bonuses/dividends.
