Travel distance to work

I've not long started in royalmail and have been told now that I have to travel from where i work to place which is over 110 miles I wasnt aware I would be working outs side of the county my sorting office is based. How this is cost effective I've no idea. Is this something that I am required to do or can I refuse?

I think a few more details are required. You started where? And then something changed and they are asking you to travel 2.5 hours commute to deliver from another delivery office?

I wouldn't travel 110 miles. Think of the fuel and time you're not getting paid for.

I've assumed it be a van from my delivery office not my own car but that's an assumption. As I'll still be based and deliver locally but some days travel 2 hours to deliver for 2 hours in there then travel 2 hours back. I cant understand the sense in it.

If it is travel in a van to deliver 110 miles away - consider if you're happy doing that. I would say if they want you to commute 100 miles ... tell them where to go.

Overall: Get some clarity on what you're being asked is best.

Just remember your start time is when you are at your DO, and they provide the Van. They might ask you to go in your car or just make out it's the done thing, refuse. They will either get you a van or reconsider sending you.

Personally, I think it is a completely "unreasonable request", which is how most of these things are judged. If you don't mind driving, it's easy money.

This is literally insane! How much work are you going to get done - 2.5 hours?!

If they insist, start time as normal at your home office.

Do not use your own car for that sort of travelling. Firstly you'd need
insurance that covers you for travel to another place of work and secondly even if they were to pay
you mileage to cover wear and tear/fuel it's not enough for that distance. I'd do it for say a max of
20 miles but that's it.

Finish time as normal back at your home office.

If you still can, I'd edit the locations out of the posts you've made.

I know a couple of lads who got sent across the country for this a bit before covid. They shared a loop before starting the return journey.

Always start at your delivery office and use a van to get there and back. Never use your own car.If they refuse ,then you refuse to do it. Get your rep on it if there’s a problem. I would do this though, easy money for you.

110 miles is nuts , is that including the return journey or just one way, they talk of saving money all the time then do something like this.

It's quite clearly mad sending someone 110 miles, on the other hand I'd do it, 4 to 5 hours travelling, then assuming the walk is prepared you've little more than an hour to actually work, get in!!
