Is it still "working correctly" to use a trolley? If it is, where are they all and why doesn't anyone get told how to use them now?

So do you think working correctly is to carry a bag on your shoulder? (Even though a lot of the RM TV propaganda videos
show a postie carrying one - ).

They're all in corners of yards, in the bike shed, in the skip area because people would rather run round
carrying a bag to get a few minutes on 'job and knock' and have a bad posture/work related injury when they retire.

People don't get told how to use them because nobody gets trained properly in RM.

but what the numpties forget is that after each loop you have to do parcels as well
We have single HCT duties that dont do parcels , funnily enough its the union rep thats got one of them

Don’t you have hills and steps in your areas? Using a trolley is just not practical and with the scroats round here if you left your trolley unattended while you do that row of raised terrace houses it wouldn’t be there when you dead walk back for it

And as for hour long loops, do you just get your partners to deliver all your parcels for you? Take it you lot are non drivers?!?

We’ve had to make our loops smaller to encompass all the extra parcels we get these days

There’s no way we could fit even a quarter of the parcels and packets in our bags for an hour long loop

Larger loops means either a massively unfair workload for the driver or you give the driver less walking which means the walker is almost walking the full 2 duties on their own

With smaller loops you can balance that out and it’s just more efficient

Saying that though lately we’ve had some seriously oversized parcels so we’ve still had to drive round several loops

What happened to the idea of parcelforce taking the oversized? I haven’t seen the parcelforce guy in our area for over a month now

There is no one size fits all definition of "working correctly".

LWTs are probably not fit for purpose for the mix of mail and parcels we have now for a lot of duties. Too long a loop and you're having to leave too many parcels behind in the van, too short a loop and the time wasted assembling and disassembliing the thing makes it too inefficient.

From an H&S point of view carrying a bag was not the issue, the weight of the bag was. In the bad old days it wasn't unusual to have six or seven bundles of mail in the bag weighing up to 16kg, I doubt anyone comes anywhere near that now.

Well yes, as it was in the induction and all the minimal training I was given, and we have maybe 2 trolleys in the whole DO that need to be sought out by a manager if anyone apart from the few who still cling to theirs for dear life asks for one.

Happens in our office sometimes, if mails been left for 2 or 3 days the brochures and magazines can soon build up. Not so much in summer but earlier this year I saw a few bags weighed that were on or close to 16kg
