Van running

Post by Rage24 »

My co worker has been told twice that he is leaving the van running too much at work (he isn't as far as I'm aware) how are they tracking this? The little box in the van that tracks your speed is snapped and has been for a while, but apparently it's your PDA that tracks it? How is the PDA tracking how long the van is running for?

So he is in fact leaving the van running; and it is just that you both think it is not "too much"? :hmmmm

Solution: Switch it off as soon as you stop. Sorted.

Well that "snapped" trimble is giving out faulty data and needs a defect raising on it.

Maybe they know where you park each loop and your sitting on your asses to long and thus making that dot bigger and redder?

Not sure that the snapped Trimble inside the van is the part which actually sends the data?

It is, have experienced it in a previous life. The kit RM have is now obviously years out of date compared to
that Trimble now sell, but it does the job: https://transportation.trimble.com/prod ... et-manager
Trimble Fleet Manager provides back-office personnel with first-of-its-kind industry average Dwell Times. Fleet managers, dispatchers, and more now have insight into dwell times making it easier than ever to proactively plan routes and avoid costly detentions.
It appears that managers think that the OP is 'dwelling' too much!

I've had the same complaint and had to explain that the mercedes electric vans lose 1-5 miles of battery every restart, so if you're on LATs you either idle it or come back after 15 packets or so. To be fair the managers took note and use the Nissan's only for LATs

The problem is Trimble can't tell the difference between somebody parking up and leaving the engine running whilst they deliver a parcel and somebody stuck at traffic lights, roadworks etc.... It's a very blunt tool which Royal Mail put far too much emphasis on

Give it a good wack or snip it, half of them don't work anymore so staff aren't being treated fairly.

We have been told the Trimble cuts in if the van is stationary for 5 minutes or longer

Just to answer your question the pda can track your movements but it has no connection to the van at all.
