Newhaven do woefull service
Anyone here work in Newhaven DO, sent a 1st class recorded parcel last Monday on the 17th. I'm presuming your massively understaffed and similar scenes are playing out down there as they are in the rest of the delivery offices. Anyone confirm this?

Re: Newhaven do woefull service
I'm not sure that anyone would confirm this as they may wish not to identify their place of work. Royal mail has staffing issues across the country. These are not staffing issues but instead poor management issues. When you don't replace staff that leave and then let a load more leave on voluntary redundancy then you end up short staffed and eventually the service suffers and here we are.
Interesting name by the way!

Re: Newhaven do woefull service
Your probably right about not wanting to identify from any specific office. It would be silly of me to presume that there's still offices out there bucking the trend and showing 100% retention rates amongst the staff. From what I hear on the shop floor pretty much every office in the sector I'm from are woefully understaffed and pinching staff from similarly understaffed offices to cope with backed up rounds that haven't gone out for several days or longer.

This was posted in the Offices “officially” in trouble thread a few days ago….
We keep on having workers at our Delivery Office taken to Brighton and Newhaven these last two weeks and we are short staffed at our Delivery Office
So, yeah, looks like they are struggling.

Re: Newhaven do woefull service
Ffs! knew i should have used a different courier, £6 quid to have a parcel sat there in a packet bag for weeks on end because there's no capacity to deliver it + the prospect of having to refund the buyer. I also sent a special delivery on same day to a different area and that was scanned as no answer on the next day despite the buyer stating he was in the garden all day waiting as he specifically needed the parts the next day.
Scanned at 12:30pm as delivery attempted no answer. Would have believed the info given on the tracking system if I hadn't seen DO managers do it in our office.
Tragic, be the last time I ever use royal mail to send anything out again. All because one man thought he could intimidate, bully and threaten the workers into submission and they all voted with their feet and walked out the door.

How do managers get away with such dishonest behavior?Abandonshit wrote: ↑28 Jul 2023, 09:48Ffs! knew i should have used a different courier, £6 quid to have a parcel sat there in a packet bag for weeks on end because there's no capacity to deliver it + the prospect of having to refund the buyer. If he knew a parcel was coming why would he be sitting in the garden?Abandonshit wrote: ↑28 Jul 2023, 09:48Ffs! knew i should have used a different courier, £6 quid to have a parcel sat there in a packet bag for weeks on end because there's no capacity to deliver it + the prospect of having to refund the buyer. Wouldn't like to speculate so publicly. Judging by how busy the customer service bot is on twitter tho I'd suggest they don't. As a customer tho what can you really do about it?simmo11 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2023, 13:05How do managers get away with such dishonest behavior?Abandonshit wrote: ↑28 Jul 2023, 09:48Ffs! knew i should have used a different courier, £6 quid to have a parcel sat there in a packet bag for weeks on end because there's no capacity to deliver it + the prospect of having to refund the buyer. Said he was in the front garden painting his house as he didn't want to miss the postman.qwerty2 wrote: ↑28 Jul 2023, 13:54If he knew a parcel was coming why would he be sitting in the garden?Abandonshit wrote: ↑28 Jul 2023, 09:48Ffs! knew i should have used a different courier, £6 quid to have a parcel sat there in a packet bag for weeks on end because there's no capacity to deliver it + the prospect of having to refund the buyer. Thanks to all the top class posties who went and pulled them out of the s**t. You don't earn enough for the top class work you do day in day out guys but that's a matter for another day.

Re: Newhaven do woefull service
We have had whole walks not gone out at all, most days in our office this summer, mainly due to staff shortage.
Would have been unheard of just a few years ago.

Most walks in my office dont go out on your rest day and you end up doing 6 days work in 5 days with mail and D2D's.
Obviously the tracked get done on your day off for the managers bonus
