Are non-tracked large parcels being redirected? Edit: they aren't

Post by cheerful »

We've got parcel drivers who are supposed to handle anything shoebox sized or larger, but parcels on the borderline can end up with either the walking delivery or the parcel drivers.

A shoebox sized parcel had been taken out the day before by the parcel driver, refused by the person living there, marked for RTS, and ended up on my frame the following day.

There is a redirection for that person, but the parcel was just a normal 2nd class (with a QR code Post Office label).

While preparing mail we're supposed to scan all tracked items (and it'll let you know if there is a redirection). I know we don't need to scan non-tracked, but I tested it anyway. It came up with the correct address, but the PDA didn't beep about their being a redirection in place.

Was this just a one off bug, or do redirections only work for Tracked parcels? The redirection is in date.

Sorry don't know the answer but like you I'd have thought that as the qr has the address embedded it should have flagged up the prompt to check.

If it doesn't then that creates an issue for the DPR/large parcel delivery drivers, as they rely solely on the PDA informing them of a redirection not manually checking the sheets like the duty OPG does.

I had another parcel for the same address today, also posted at a Post Office with the white square QR label.

I scanned it, it came up with the address on the parcel, but gave no warning about a redirection being in place.

It could be something wrong with just this persons address, or something wrong with the system affecting all Post Office labels, but I'd have expected it to be noticed by someone else if that was the case.

Next time I notice a Post Office QR label for a different redirection I'll check it.

I did some checking today, scanned some non-tracked packets which have redirections, even though the PDA shows the address, it doesn't check if there is a redirection in place.

Basically every non-tracked large parcel being handled by delivery drivers is bypassing redirection.

The public are paying £76+ per year for the redirection, and it's skipping packets posted at a Post Office.

I've mentioned it to my manager and union rep (in case someone gets a warning over 'missing' a redirection), but neither seemed too concerned.

If you scan it to a dedicated parcel route the redirection will show on non tracked parcels as well.
