That was my thought too, reading comments on here it seems it's down to the office com to inform hr of the amount of owed leave and because they're nasty awkward bastards they don't do it on purpose, WTF why can't it be automatically deducted/paid using the info on the psp system.

This year to settle it in, next year it's a whole different ball game.
I'm turning purple!

Probably not, but there will be more work to processkazardaimenu wrote: ↑16 Jul 2023, 06:45If they can have us start earlier why do they need to move the start times so far forward? Will the mail be arriving earlier during the winter?

Don't RM want to take large parcels away from delivery offices so less parcel sorting? Then they are looking to remove some of the time from walk preps so more indoor time lost..
RM are looking to take as much time as they can from the indoor side of delivery, reduce the amount of walks and have us on the streets delivering for longer.
My guess is the PDA will be used to monitor our indoor performance before long

Half of our delivery office don't take them anyway as their rounds are too long and its only the runners and O/T people that complete
After getting manual letters in to the office at 7.45 with lack of IPS sorters due to being massively understaffed we dont get back to our frame till 8.30 earliest and dont leave the office till 9.30 to start anything from 9.40 till 10.15
After having a 40 min break and a 5 hour round you do the maths

I meant because there's usually more work and therefore busier in winter than in summer.A2B wrote: ↑16 Jul 2023, 11:54

I think the PDAs will be utilised for outdoor delivery because it's that which makes up the greater part of our working day

6-7 full parcel sacks in June,July. 400 extra homes since the revision. The lack of room with double slots and nowhere to put excess packets, d2d etc. RM will manage workload how they wish, we will be starting st least 20 min later and finishing after 3-330 (my guess) then it gets worse until theyve got us strangled with a 9-5 job, which they wanted years ago.

Re: Seasonal hours: a question
I have a question on this.
If you already have leave booked this coming winter within the 3 month 39hr period, does this mean that you now have to use 39hrs for a full timers week leave instead of the usual 37hrs ?
If this is the case then almost every single person will be in debt to Royal Mail with regards anual leave come April.

Re: Seasonal hours: a question
My question regarding seasonal hours is: will the company or the union be providing the slide rule I'll need to calculate my start and finish times? The needless complexity behind this seems designed to cause more psychological 'disintegration' to drive existing employees out of the job.
The machine stops.

Re: Seasonal hours: a question
My dad was the only person I knew who could use a slide rule for calculations.
I reckon about 50% of the people on this forum have never seen a slide rule.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Seasonal hours: a question
If that's the case then presumably it'll get cancelled out by next year's summer leave weeks only requiring 35 hours, surely they should have started it in April rather than screwing us for this forthcoming winter.RTP wrote: ↑17 Jul 2023, 18:04I have a question on this.

I could use one at school, give me one now though and I wouldn't have a clue how to use it, I can't even recall when I last saw one.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑17 Jul 2023, 18:39My dad was the only person I knew who could use a slide rule for calculations.

Re: Seasonal hours: a question
I originally envisioned one of those cardboard wheels like the one the pension fund sent out that lets you calculate contributions versus payouts, but I didn't know what to call it. I think a company branded slide rule for figuring out how many hours you can expect to be screwed today would go hand in hand with the dog peg. Maybe combine them like a Swiss Army knife.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑17 Jul 2023, 18:39My dad was the only person I knew who could use a slide rule for calculations.

Re: Seasonal hours: a question
It won't get cancelled out though will it. Yes you are right in that it should start from April to coincide with the start of annual leave, but it doesn't. Asked this question before and looked through the agreement, but its looking like a case of fingers in ears hoping nobody will notice.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑17 Jul 2023, 18:40If that's the case then presumably it'll get cancelled out by next year's summer leave weeks only requiring 35 hours, surely they should have started it in April rather than screwing us for this forthcoming winter.RTP wrote: ↑17 Jul 2023, 18:04I have a question on this.

Think about it. you are a full timer and have a week booked in the busy 3 months coming up and don't have any spare hours to play with. So its looking like you will owe 2hrs come April. Two weeks booked and you will owe 4hrs. That will never equal out next year, because the holidays run from April to April.
Would be helpful if Martin could clarify this and then at least we know were we stand before the kick in the balls.
