Alternatives to the CWU

Post by JohnDoe12 »

So I left the cowardly pathetic CWU and joined another union. The links to alternative unions to join are below, both offer representation, advice and legal help. Oh and they wont sell you down the river.

https://www.theworkersunion.com/

https://www.workersofengland.co.uk/

If you want to cancel your membership with CWU, just phone RM HR 0345 606 0603 and tell them to stop CWU payments going from your pay.

Please add other alternative unions if you can find them.

They won't have any clout in the workplace either.

Yeah well at least there not a company union who actively go out of their way to help RM screw us over. These unions are independent, oh and they arn't run by 150 grand a year frauds.

These unions offer the same protections of any other union including the comical CWU who lets face it just allow RM to do what they want. These unions will come to the office if you have a dispute, help you in the dispute and if needed provide legal assistance if required. Alternatively the CWU will come to the office tell you they cant do anything then they will go have a cup of coffee and laugh with the manager before they head back to CWU HQ and laugh about how gullible their members are.

They should, however, form the remaining function of the CWU, which is representation, witnessing and help during personal issues like meetings and reviews etc.

Don't get me wrong, I pulled myself away from pulling my subs (barely), but so long as people are member of **A** union that will assist them when needed, I don't think it has to be the CWU if they truly feel let down by them.

Heard a few rumours about the CWU and RMT joining forces in a hope that come the next agreement the Union will pack more of a punch.

I'm not sure it is a joining of forces, more of a RMT swallowing the CWU?

Mike Lynch is a proper union boss, Dave Fraud is an overpaid Royal Mail lackey. No way Lynch would allow his union to be associated with the CWU cowards tbh. On top of that Mike Lynch has nothing left to fight for-for posites, the CWU gave it all away.

Lynch can't seem to get an increased pay rise for it's members and it's still looking likely most of the ticket offices will be closed.

They won't sell it's RM members down the river as they'll have no voice when it comes to the annual pay reviews, neither will any of it's members be able to vote on them in future.

The vast majority of interaction members have with the union is at local or branch level.

Local reps and area reps are not HQ.

Anger at HQ is one thing.
Advising members that they would be better off taking some random rep from an unrelated and unrecognised union with no experience of Royal Mail procedures and agreements and no skin in the game would somehow end well in a disciplinary meeting is just dumb.

Great remind me how that CWU collective barganing went again, oh yes that's right RM put a list of demands trashing our terms and conditions to the CWU then one year and 18 striked days later the CWU agreed to them all. 150 grand a year Dave Fraud screwed us over AGAIN, and people still want to keep paying him their subs????

I would say the very definition of dumb is giving a union your money when that same union time after time keep screwing you over and offer zero protections to your job. I mean have you been in a coma for the last year? The CWU certianly seem to have been. As for local branch level, again have you been in a coma? My office has been total trampled on by RM in the last few months, massive lapsing, senority trashed all over etc etc and the CWU rep said .... wait for it ..... sorry cant do anything about it, you just have to put up with it!! Even worse local reps are actively helping managers implement RM agenda. lol CWU total waste of time nationaly and locally, only a dumb person would give them them their money IMO.

Lastly go ask the reps that got sacked how the CWU stood in their corner and protected them. People need to wake up the CWU are now a company union, they only care about making Royal Mail more money. You are wasting your money paying them subs. They will always put Royal Mails interest first.

If that's your experience of your local and area representation fair enough.

It's not everybody's.

It's not mine.

But explain to me how being represented by Joe Bloggs from The National Union of Knitting Machine Operators would have helped?

If you're going to leave the union that's fine, it's your choice but pretending you can replace them with some random from another union is dishonest, you would be as well taking your best mate's dog in with you and saving yourself a couple of quid.

Indeed.
Leaving one (supposedly) useless union in a foot-stamping hissy fit and then recommending joining another union in the vain hope that they'll do any better must be this week's nomination for Net Stupidity Award.
RM don't have to allow a rep from the East Yorkshire Slate Cutters and Cricket Ball Stitchers Union onto RM premises to represent you in times of trouble, let alone negotiate pay, T&C's etc.
