So if the agreement is still in play by then and we go down to a 35hr week am i right in thinking you have to work over 7hrs a day to get your 40min break?

I bet you we lose our paid lunch breaks. So the 35 hours is only your paid hours. Take a lunch break, you will have to legally, but not get paid for it. Probably like most businesses up and down the UK. This whole deal is a pisser. The 35 hours is a red herring. We will actually be working more day hours than with our current 37 hour contracts.

Well if my thinking is correct, and if they make it a 7hr day for FT workers that's 50mins a week saved for every FT member of staff working a 5 day week. How this will work out for other shift patterns will be interesting

My manager has told me that because I am covered by the 2010 equality act i can keep the breaks I have now without my manager I would be messed up really glad to have such a great manager

If they reduce the hours to 35 from 37 then all the full timers will then get paid 2 hours less. This will then wipe out the paltry pay rise that just got voted in.

No it's seasonal hours, longer in winter shorter in summer for same pay. There's been a little dispute about it for a few months in case you hadn't heard

Dispute, those are usually two sided. Anyway, I thought the reduction in hours was about the attempt to reduce full time hours to 35. I've linked above as evidence I'm not mad. (Not completely anyway)

I think as many have stated before the reduction to a permanent 35hrs ain't happening anytime soon

Not sure thats how it works, from what i was told when they last did it from 40 (or what ever it was) to 37 you got paid the same rate but did 3 hours less - hopefully it will be the same when / if they drop it down to 35.

I don't think it'll be a flat 7hrs per day every day, there'll still be longs and shorts to accommodate the busier days, so some days will still have an attendance over 7hrs 1min, I think the plan was to reduce each day by 24 minutes but could be mistaken there.

Will only take 1 minute overtime to gain an extra 10 minute break though.

True but there's many who never book overtime, big savings to be had if RM go for it

This is going to be fun...

Manager: "you worked a minute of overtime yesterday and took a 40 minute break.I told you before you went out I wasn't authorising any overtime.If you hadn't have taken a forty minute break you would have been back 9 minutes early. You owe me 9 minutes."

A full timer, on a 5 day week, not presently working longs and shorts will have their total weekly meal reliefs reduced by 50 minutes a week.

50 minutes X 15 weeks of low season =750 minutes.

As the total hours worked over the year has not changed
but the meal relief over the year has been reduced by 750 minutes, the full timer will now be working the equivalent of almost two extra days over the course of a year.

My understanding of seasonal variations is that it is on top of longs and shorts.

Example.( 16 minutes of longs and shorts)
Busy season; a long day 7:40 becomes 8:04
a short day 7:08 becomes 7:32

Low season; a long day 7:40 becomes 7:16
a short day 7:08 becomes 6:44
