People who have been in the job a long time - when did we first win full pay for sickness absence?

Post by lingam »

I've been in the job nearly 15 years and i remember being pleasantly surprised when i found out that we get full pay when ill. Compared to the rest of my friends in unskilled job it was nice to have that security in case I got ill. I haven't had to use it much (luckily)

Now I see the union have backtracked on that. But surely it was the union membership who first won us that condition? I doubt Royal Mail just decided to do that out of the goodness of it's heart for it's employees.

Does anyone know when we first got those conditions imolemented?

Its a throwback to the public sector days and some public sector workers still have exactly the same ill health benefits as we are about to loose.

Ahh the good old days before the CWU threw all our hard fought terms and conditions away to help the shareholders make more money.
