What are you not getting? most of us have been left high and dry in offices for years this was the first time in ages for the union to show its for for all…..but no they folded despite being given another mandate to strike! And don’t give me the “company’s broke” bs

The union are just as big an embarrassment as weak management with this company. At local level, union reps have supported staff that has shocking levels of sick leave, wilful delay of mail, stealing mail, bullying, office changes making workloads uneven, dictating their own views on others. You might have a good local rep, but in other areas where Im from, they've made the job a lot worse.

The problem is the Union is toothless, they have Zero clout these days and that's before all this.

You may aswell save yourself some money in subs because the Union is as good as finished imo.

You say that until you need them. A veteran postie in our office had his job saved by his rep this very week. I doubt he would have managed it alone.

You all do realise that a non union member has every bit as many legal workers rights as somebody who is a member.
Just try to clue yourself up on workers rights and don't be scared to fight your corner, pretty much everything this union haven't done for you.
I have been a member of various unions in my 44yrs working and the last 16 in RM, i have always supported my union and have been a shop steward in my time.
I am afraid that either this union is spineless or union laws have changed so much they can't fight it, but either way if this is the best they can do it isn't good enough for me and nor should it be for anyone.
I will spend my last few years working union free and go out to pasture with a clear conscience.

The £900 has swayed it back into a yes favour , our work people are feeling it financially, they need the money simple. The change from plane to train, will alter start times no matter what. The sick pay system may revert back to the previous set up , it depends on the percentage of absence. If RM do get fined for not meeting the USO, then they seriously need to look at revisions, this they can and hopefully will realise that talking with the CWU can repair our delivery reputation. Times do change, the IHR and VR payments have reduced greatly , maybe signs of the times, or type of Co. that is now us.

Have you always had that approach to voting?
That if the result doesn’t go the way you want you just jack it in?

I think a lot of the membership feel this way, I'm afraid it's feeling like our own union leaders are another layer of management. I never in my 35 years would think it would come to this!

I am aware of the feelings, merely pointing out the coincidence that this is perhaps the first time in the history of the CWU that we have had such a difficult and opinion split vote.

And that perhaps some of the membership should reflect on whether it’s fair to chuck it after such a “good run” of results in their favour comes to an end.

It's slightly easier to keep a dispute going when you are representing a train network that connects the country and has sway in economic productivity.
We are a private firm with multiple competitors. Granted we have the USO but we won't have the same political sway as NHS or rail workers. That's just reality.
So comparing leaders is unfair.

There is most certainly a difference between the types of business the 2 unions members represented work in but there is also a massive difference between the attitude of the heads of the unions and their mentality. One is lead by a very smart media friendly intelligent person who gives great sound bites and speaks clearly and concisely and the other who struggles to convey their main message. Then throw in one seems to only care about what happens to his members and their daily lives whereas the other seems to only care about their own daily life and how they are perceived by the company and the General Public. I would love someone as bloody minded as Mick Lynch as CWU leader
