Re: 16:30 CWU live
Let's be honest for 95% of the time our interaction with the union is at local and branch level and what goes on at HQ is of f**k all interest to us.
If you've got a decent rep, area rep, branch etc it's worth the money just for that back up and the ability to back up your mates.
Nothing we do will have the slightest effect on the national officers or the clones who will replace them if they do move on.
There's making a point and there's cutting your nose off to spite your face. There won't be a mass exodus from the CWU because most members get that.

I agree about local reps, do a great job on the whole. Had a stint myself, tough job.
Our office I'd say about a third have left the union this year.
Your more confident than me.

I hope he's doesn't lay it on too thick with the celebratory style if it is a YES vote. Having your sick pay annihilated and increasing your chances of being mugged at 5pm on a dark winters night isn't cause for back slapping...and if it's a NO. He would have to question his position.

Will be interesting if they allow a comments section? Thing is it is a s**t deal we got to vote on all our T&C's gone and no vote on them just more imposition by RM but get a pittance in recompense!

Please ask all 3 of them to cut straight to the chase.
We don't need an hour of waffle
, we just need the result.

I agree.
Although if the CWU do lose quite a few members and are short on funds, where will they make cutbacks as an organisation??
Will it be those decent reps or these national officers/clones? The CWU organisational structure seems to be every bit as complex as Royal Mail management
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

It's obviously YES otherwise they wouldn't bother with a live result, they would quietly announce a NO in a press release late tonight.

That if the result doesn’t go the way you want you just jack it in?
And that perhaps some of the membership should reflect on whether it’s fair to chuck it after such a “good run” of results in their favour comes to an end.
We’ve been shafted the last 2 major ballots via acceptance from hq
If it’s yes I’m out as well

The thing is as you all know if RM break the terms of this agreement once it has been passed we can go on strike with a new ballot of industrial action but that is small recompense for the days we have given in the past!

You say that until you need them. A veteran postie in our office had his job saved by his rep this very week. I doubt he would have managed it alone.sixfoottwo wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 15:37The problem is the Union is toothless, they have Zero clout these days and that's before all this.LouBarlow wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 15:20You might as well jack in the job as well then, as whatever the result, we are in for big changes. How people can think this is the best time to go it alone, without union support, is beyond me.Scotland1990 wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 15:13This will probably be my last hour in the union. You may aswell save yourself some money in subs because the Union is as good as finished imo.

It's slightly easier to keep a dispute going when you are representing a train network that connects the country and has sway in economic productivity.hans solo wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 15:56Where the f**k do you get your good run of resultsBigSacks wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 15:22I am aware of the feelings, merely pointing out the coincidence that this is perhaps the first time in the history of the CWU that we have had such a difficult and opinion split vote.derricksmyth wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 15:19I think a lot of the membership feel this way, I'm afraid it's feeling like our own union leaders are another layer of management. We are a private firm with multiple competitors. Granted we have the USO but we won't have the same political sway as NHS or rail workers. That's just reality.
So comparing leaders is unfair.

The RMT train strikes have been going on for 13 months now and they've got nowhere so I'd avoid comparisons with them.Mickeybrowneyes wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 16:07It's slightly easier to keep a dispute going when you are representing a train network that connects the country and has sway in economic productivity.hans solo wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 15:56Where the f**k do you get your good run of resultsBigSacks wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 15:22I am aware of the feelings, merely pointing out the coincidence that this is perhaps the first time in the history of the CWU that we have had such a difficult and opinion split vote.derricksmyth wrote: ↑11 Jul 2023, 15:19I think a lot of the membership feel this way, I'm afraid it's feeling like our own union leaders are another layer of management.
