Hottest June on record
Once again I will ask CWU (because I never get a f***ing answer!)
Later starts have the health of delivery staff been taking into?
We pay you to protect us, 18 days strike for what?

Some of you will get skin cancer but that is a risk that the royal mail bosses and the cwu, sitting in their air con offices, are willing to take.

Re: Hottest June on record
When it was 40c the cwu got together and decided that *checks notes* we could work until it hit 37. Then ST was moaning that we'd slowed down.
But the public attitude appears to be "I'd love to get paid to be out in this weather" so we have a bit of a battle to get anyone to listen to us

Re: Hottest June on record
And if climate predictions are correct it’s set to get hotter
Also there was talk on the radio about the number of posties attacked by dogs this year
Royal Mail have recognised it as a problem and are well aware that more posties get attacked by dogs during school holidays when the kids are at home
So it stands to reason that we will be put at greater risk of dog attacks if we are still out delivering when the kids get home from school
Royal Mail could of course perform a risk assessment and find a solution for both these issues like
say start and finish earlier
But instead they’ve opted to decrease our sick pay

I imagine that as cultures that shut down for the hottest parts of the day, they aren't traipsing about all afternoon. Likewise colder countries that are used to snow still run fine when it does, whereas here it all goes wrong as no matter how prepared we are as individuals, we live in an infrastructure created to deal with rain and mild weather

That is the biggest issue I have.
What to prioritise - your safety from the sabre tooth alsation that the owner probably doesn't have control of when they open the door a few inches OR
A picture revealing the owner actually has the package because the door is open and they are not pulling a fast one
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

They would probably come out and drag the mail out from under your collapsed, dehydrated body and go away and leave your carcass for the vultures/junkies.guardianangel wrote: ↑04 Jul 2023, 15:32moonjaguar wrote: ↑04 Jul 2023, 14:44Some of you will get skin cancer but that is a risk that the royal mail bosses and the cwu, sitting in their air con offices, are willing to take.![]()

Re: Hottest June on record
The latest communication from RM about taking a photo is an absolute disgrace. I can’t find the exact statement online (it was handed to us in work time snoozing) but they were telling us to hold the door shut while telling the owner to put the dog away. So we are now holding a bundle of mail, holding a parcel, holding the PDA, trying to talk through the door to the owner with the dog going ballistic, getting poised to take a photo while holding the door shut.qwerty2 wrote: ↑04 Jul 2023, 17:10More dog attacks because they want a photo with the door open!Jen1 wrote: ↑04 Jul 2023, 15:01And if climate predictions are correct it’s set to get hotter

Give them another 2 years and they’ll have us sketch a picture of the dog on the PDA too.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Re: Hottest June on record
If the climate predictions are correct, our employment issues will be the least of our problems.
