Sundays: why isn't this being mentioned?

Post by Kenfandango »

So our COM and Union rep have today informed us that RM wants everyone who started mid-2021 onwards to work EVERY Saturday and Sunday starting in August, with 2 randomly allocated rest days in the week "as suits the company." This is meant to be a permanent thing.
Was this mentioned at all in the dispute, by either side?!
Our COM is not happy, as obviously it leaves them understaffed in the week, and those of us on those contracts (thanks CWU for caring so strongly about our terms and conditions! Great job!) are also not happy, mainly as we all have families and took the job for the hours rather than the money.

There will be worse to come if it is a yes vote because they will know how weak the membership is mr foolishy67 .

A no vote won't affect this though, as it's not being mentioned or acknowledged by either side and relates to terms in contracts that changed a year prior to the dispute without the CWU even batting an eyelid

My thoughts exactly, they need the support of the workforce to move forward. Too many caveats in the agreement they can use and a Yes indicates we support that. People need to look pass the below inflation pay increase (decrease)

I take it that these are the contracts with Sunday working in them. Luckily I started July 2021 but just before those contacts came out.

Yeah it has "Royal Mail may, as required, change your days and times of attendance to suit the business" as one of the clauses. I think you started literally weeks before that kicked in as those who started in August 21 have been told they're part of this great new way of working

Surely it depends on what there contract states,, if it states working 5 out of 7 days then there not a lot they can do

I do one a month which isn’t too bad.

There wouldn’t be enough work for all new starters to work Sundays.

Currently do the same, apparently the Sunday packets are increasing 10x as of July 24th due to new contracts
