Good luck in this job going forward, without union support. With or without this agreement, your job is going to be more scrutinised than ever.
That's the way I see it. It's a bitter pill to swallow but the changes that RM want to make are inevitable. At least with the union involvement we can at least try to mitigate some of the changes that the company want to make. The issues over later start and finish times, sick pay, revisions etc etc are not going away any time soon
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

There wont be any point of being in the cwu we aint gonna win any more fights with royal mail they will do whatever they want with us anyone thinking the cwu will have any power in royal mail are sadly deluded the end is near
I think you might be the one who is deluded. Do you think you would have a potential pay increase on the way, and a generous lump sum, while working for a company that is losing money at a devastating rate, without union representation? It is a miracle they have achieved that alone.

And do you seriously think the company won’t have its pound of flesh for this pay rise and lump sum? Utter nonsense

They would have it either way. It is a failing business so change is happening. You either vote with the union, and at least have some say in shaping it, or vote no and have none.

The thing is Loub I’d love to think we would have some say in shaping it but there’s more chance of RM locating and ousting all those rogue managers.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Yep, the union subs are worth that support alone, plus if we all leave the union then who discusses a deal for us next year, the management on our behalf 😄😄😄?

Whilst I'm annoyed that the Union have capitulated and turned almost full circle to Royal Mail's vision it would be a big mistake to leave the CWU at this point. Without a union the company would have pushed absolutely everything at us and we wouldn't have any voice in the workplace. You might think that they have done that anyway - but I believe things could have been much, much worse.
What was Royal Mail's vision when this dispute started.
I'm sure it was to completely remove the union from the workplace while siphoning our parcel growth off to the gig economy.
This agreement is not what Royal Mail envisioned when this dispute started.
I hear this allot, that somehow the union have capitulated. It simply isn't true.
No vote however than their original plan is a strong possibility again.
People getting bogged down by slight changes to a decent sick policy and starting times and ignoring the bigger picture.

Let’s be realistic the union has shaped none of this in a positive way, certainly not for delivery staff. None of these “concessions” will end with anything other than us being pumped

I’m not argumentative. You just don’t like what I am saying. That is fine. You understand that people have different opinions right? There is no need for rudeness. The only danger to the CWU comes in the event of a no vote result. While they continue to secure pay rises for employees working for a company that is losing money at a record rate, they deserve our respect and thanks.

Yeah I know the company wanted 3 hour later start times, owner drivers, compulsory Sundays, total flexibility, pay linked to SISO and then Simon Thompson announcing 10,000 compulsory redundancies to the media. Royal Mail obviously set the bar really high knowing that the Union had to push them down somehow in negotiations and try and meet them in the middle. We had to strike for months with no real progress to the extent that the board weren't even bothering to turn up in negotiations and we even joined picket lines at Xmas.

If the posties are angry then they have every reason to be considering how the company have treated its staff. 2% imposed pay rise - pathetic! the best and final offer last year - pathetic! Even this deal seems to favour the company with reduced sick/IHR, seasonal variations, later start and finish times and of course they will be steam rolling thousands of new recruits on less pay, terms and conditions by forcing out the existing overpaid posties on decent terms and cons by making duties deliberately unachievable. There was some vague promise that the CWU wouldn't put the vote out until quality of service and the USO were put right but from what I've seen at our depot, duties are still failing on a daily basis. And yet they have even outsourced and brought in agency staff. The business is just one great big f**k up and I'm sure that the "my performance" tile on the PDA tracking device will be used to council and conduct posties in the future. I mean the company haven't even really reinstated the reps/members that were suspended/dismissed on trumped up charges leaving it up to some Lord Falconer to decide. This is a business that really doesn't give a flying f**k about its staff and it's no wonder that many of them are angry and are voting NO.

What that will achieve is anybody's guess but it's obvious that 1. we are not going to be striking forever and 2. despite their threats we are not going to go out of business any time soon and I'm sick and tired of explaining why. Royal Mail has a very strong balance sheet, billions in assets and a company that is making millions and is ever expanding in Europe. It is also very unusual business practice for a company to make record profits one year and then make record losses the next and the only thing that makes sense in all of this is that we are still owned by billionaires of large hedge funds. The biggest issue facing us is not modernisation but the board who are hellbent on driving us headfirst towards the gig economy in order to make even more profit for its shareholders. The company have at least offered us a few crumbs with the profit share scheme of 20% in their "best and final" offer but this will be another green light that in 2 years time the company will push for even more change.

But in spite of all of this I still believe that we are better off with a Union even though Union membership as a proportion of employees in the UK as a whole has been in decline.

You make some strong points granted but I still think this is no where near the agreement the company envisaged at the beginning.
They were actively using owner drivers before Christmas to do parcels, something which they probably thought would continue....
This agreement puts that to bed.
They drafted in union busters from the US and used textbook tactics and throw grenades at the union and it's structures.
Getting a third party to independently look at these dismissals is the best we could hope for really.
In the agreement it talks about jointly working with the union on driving the change.
Managers were told to ignore the union and push through change.
Now everything has to go through the correct channels again like the IR Framework.

The Union have undoubtedly made tactical mistakes throughout this dispute. Why say things like "win the ballot, win the dispute" and then not at the very least just announce a few strike dates after having a costly second ballot??? All this done is massively undersell and undermine itself.

For me though the biggest mistake from the union has been its inability to organise the wider parcel delivery sector which is self employed labour, min wage and no sick pay, annual leave, holiday pay etc etc. In this race to the bottom, either our conditions continue to be degraded or the conditions in the rest of the sector have to improve. For the CWU to gain any sort of strength over our employers, what we desperately need is some sort of unity across all the delivery sectors. I don't know whether the CWU are blind to this or whether they have tried and failed to unite with other unions like GMB and Unite who have a presence in the parcel delivery sector? It is clearly obvious to me that these unions don't collaborate.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
