A chap that has delivered parcel in his own car for years local to me has just called it a day at 82 for a good few years he'd been working for Hermes or whatever they're called now. His monthly diesel bill was £250 and he told me that parcels had dropped of so much that he hadn't even broke even some months , of course I know we still deliver letters but is this what RM want too?
Deliver stuff bloody hell. I’ve waited a full week for a parcel that’s in the system and seen a postman once. We won’t get to 82 the way this business is been run. A great job ruined by incompetence at the highest level.
Scrap these bloody stupid revisions. The race to the bottom we’ve already won it. Headed there we reached rock bottom months ago when circa 120k staff were ignored by the last union ballot.
I just wonder, when they finish looking for and hopefully find this missing submarine , if they could divert to any Royal Mail office picked at random and see if they can find morale.
Parcel deliveries will be over altogether within 10 years Royal Mail are so far behind even Amazon are bringing more parcel hubs and lockers online as deliveries are not sustainable and profits are being squeezed,if your under 40 now would be a great time to get out there is no future in this sector.
People are not ordering online in anywhere near the quantities they were and it is affecting all couriers. Inflation is refusing to budge, we are paying more for energy, food and essentials. Even the eBay-addicts on my round have eased up on the spending.
With interest rates increasing almost every other day, the idea is to prevent people buying goods they don’t really need.

I will agree with letters and flats, but packets/parcels, I'm not so sure......The company has also realised if the vast majority of the workforce are Unionised, you have to take them with you or face oblivion.

In my area it's not the affluent areas that order the parcels, deliver loads to areas that appear less affluent though.

Rumour is we're getting extra post boxes soon but post offices will still be done by dedicated collections, have you been doing post offices for a while I thought the last collection was around 5pm ?

Yeah we still collect from ours. It probably works out at about 3 hours before final collection when we get there. It has been part of our duty since as long as I have been doing it. The only change is the addition of a few post boxes so as to get rid of the SA that covered our area.

This is a town round. But in a rural area compared to a city, sure.
