Hi, here is the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 14 June (written before CWU HQ latest announcement regarding the "agreement").

OUR VOTE IS STILL NO
We aren't hearing much at all from CWU HQ about
what's happening with the deal that they struck with
RM bosses… Not since we were told by Ward that a
ballot on this rotten "agreement" was postponed
indefinitely. From time to time we get a text or
whatsapp message, but we're none the wiser. What
the hell are the union leaders up to?

SOMEONE NEEDS A JOB… AND IT'S NOT US!
The processing shift manager tried to force those of
us designated "supernumerary" into signing up for
new duties, saying if we don't, we'll be sent to a
"Redeployment Centre"… What on earth is that? A
"job centre for Royal Mail" he calls it. So that's new.
It's yet another thing that management seem to have
come up with out of the blue. But we're going
nowhere. Not to this so-called "Redeployment
Centre" nor anywhere else.

WEEKENDS ARE NOT FOR WORKING
New duty lists were put up in the book-room for part-timers,
despite the fact that all of this was meant to
be paused and none of us agreed to any such thing.
These duties even include regular Saturday and
Sunday shifts. Who would want to give up every
single weekend?

MANAGEMENT IS SUPERNUMERARY, NOT US!
It's bad enough that many of us have been branded
"supernumerary" - in fact, we've been "under-numerary"
for far too long. But to make things
worse, managers want to move us to whatever
duties they see fit. And even regardless of seniority!
No way!

NO TO THESE 1-TO-1 MEETINGS!
Managers already spilled the beans about what sort
of processing duties they want those of us they've
called "supernumerary" to do. What does
"supernumerary" even mean? One-to-one meetings
with managers are postponed for the time-being. But
they, and this supernumerary nonsense need to be
scrapped altogether!

ALL TOGETHER NEXT TIME?
There have been some reports on RoyalMailChat
that a DO in Glasgow walked out. We also heard
that Glasgow MC walked out, Wishaw threatened to,
and that a sit-in happened at Dundee. We'd like to
know more!

BRING BACK OUR CARRIER PIGEONS!
It's certainly likely that offices are walking out in
protest at revisions and cuts. Our real problem is
that we do not have that old network that used to
exist so that we could hear what's going on and
spread the word. It would also allow us to black work
from other offices which had refused to process or
deliver it.

ONE STEP FORWARD, TWO STEPS BACK
Well, W1 delivery managers realised they'd cocked-up
their revisions and had to backtrack. They got
scared they'd drown under the pile of undelivered
mail, so cancelled some of the most stupid changes
they'd made to our rounds. But their backtracking
didn't go far enough because what was really needed
was to cut our walks and bring in new hands (feet)!

SMARTPHONES AND LESSONS FOR FREE!
We thought a business that relies on delivering
letters wouldn't stop sending us our paper payslips
by mail - or would at least give us the option to keep
a paper copy of our pay! But no, management is
going ahead with their "modernisation", so that we'll
now have to install their bloody app on our phones,
set up a password (which will have to be changed
every now and then), etc., to get our payslips online.
And what about the many of us that are not tech savvy?

KEEPING AN EYE ON IT
And for us cleaners, it is even more of an issue since
we constantly find mistakes in our pay. It's been
thanks to the paper payslips that we've immediately
seen (and way too often!) them. So they'd better
give us a hand with this app and help our workmates
who might have problems with it!

IT'S GETTING HOT IN HERE
The PSM is really adding to the heat in here. The
bosses didn't think to put in extra ventilation/extra AC
when they installed it! We're close to breaking down
ourselves in this heat!
PS: To cut costs, and keep the cooler air in from the
main AC, management wanted us to keep closing
the platform doors. But that makes the job
impossible. They didn't think of that either.

MIND THE YORK
The space around the PSM is really crammed...
specially by the tipping lift. Yorks are constantly
pushed around there, just in front of a pillar that
blocks the way. To avoid accidents, york tipping will
just have to slow down...

DRIVING US MENTAL EVERY DAY
"Mental Health Week" was mid-May, and the posters
are still up… Given the fact that we're all being
driven crazy in here, this is a joke, but not one of
those funny ones...

If it really is aircon.
Probably just the usual RM blower vent plant and he's too daft to know the difference.

Yes probably just the ventilator. It was when I was there, they said they couldn't afford air conditioning though I think they had it in the admin offices.
The ventilator didn't cool the sorting floors, just brought in air from outside so if it was warm outside it didn't make any difference. There were some fans around the floor.
