3 hours OT for doing 1/2 a walk which then only takes 1.5 hours (even though it's 'agreed'), I would imagine that's the sort of thing RM hierarchy are trying to stop which is half way to being 'ghost' OT. Whether they'll then get anyone to do that half a walk for the time it actually takes is a whole new argument!
That's just doubletime OT, surely? The RM hierarchy clearly chose wisely in electing to slay that particular dragon (let me count the number of walks that didn't go out today ).
Ghosting, as I understood it, was finishing your own walk early then doing agreed OT and still finishing within your contract hours - ie, being paid twice.
Not disagreeing with you there re the 'definition' of 'ghosting', it's part of RM's 'groupthink' that people should only be
paid for the hours they've worked - but when that means that the rate for OT work is pitiful
then that means they're not going to get people to cover the outstanding work. I was sort of suggesting that the postie would
then rush round 'their' duty to finish under time and then pick up the other walk OT - thus becoming fully 'ghost'!
It's all a shambles regardless!
Giving people double and triple workloads on any day because the walk wasn't covered is a long way from fair IMO, but that is on RM not posties (badly phrased before). The real point was, in relevance to the thread, that it's a blatant, deliberate failure of the USO with no plague/ strike/ weather event/ etc to blame it on.
I agree that walk overtime should be well paid and fair play when you negotiate good terms.
All good then.
There will be someone along shortly who thinks we should bust our arses for an extra few poxy quid an hour.
Personally don't care if anyone thinks I'm holding the company to ransom.
And I certainly don't feel bad if someone's mail is left in- that's not on me.
I used to care- I've got to the point where I feel I can call the shots in this regard.
I'm sure by now, most people can relate to this.

3 hours and I'll clear that half walk boss.
No?
OK I'll leave it in.
Their choice.
A now retired colleague of mine used to pick up a bit of O/T at other offices close to his if nothing was available at his own d.o.
He told us the tale once of how he turned up at a d.o. looked at the mail in the frame and said ok, three hours.
Gaffer said no, you can do that in two. At which point he picked up his coat, said no thanks and walked out the door.

Top man.
Of course, it's down to if you can afford to say no.
But always know your worth.
Hey all, our area are going through a no "ghost" overtime rule being introduced which is fair enough, but also that no agreements on overtime and that you can only book what you work according to SISO, so if you do ½ a walk and takes you 1½ he's (hypothetically speaking) that's all you get, but according to agreement which states;
4.Opportunities to streamline pay administration
A joint trial will be initiated to evaluate how the attendance time data arising from the
deployment of Scan in Scan Out technology could support a streamlined feed of attendance
data to payroll to simplify and reduce the amount of back-office activity involved in pay
administration.
Any changes will only be via local management intervention and there will be no auto
deduction of contractual pay, allowances, Scheduled Attendance, overtime (e.g., where a
(verbal) contract for overtime pay has been agreed with the manager prior to commencement).
According to that, agreed overtime can be made, is this RM going against the agreement before we even vote on it ?
In our DO each section(area covered) has it's own budget so theres no more getting 3hrs OT for 1,30hrs work. Each section manager has to account for every minute
All this talk of doing overtime you are just playing there game you will always get one who will do overtime for say half the agreed time , we've been s_____d stiff by the union let them deal with it on second thoughts they will probably agree with management.
If they won’t let you add a bit on for doing the extra they will need to increase their overtime rates. It’s crazy that the rate goes down for working over. As mentioned it’s not worth slaving away after finishing your own duty for £8 an hour.

It's been like that in our MC for a good few years. If one section manager hasn't got the budget, you get turned away

It is bonkers the OT rate goes down, however no company in their right mind would pay double time for regular OT , bank hols ,maybe
I assume less and less people will want to do overtime now that we are going to be finishing later.
The fact that we typically finish at 2pm to 2.30pm.... still gives the afternoon to earn extra cash. Finishing later in the afternoon means overtime would obviously go into the evening.....
Going to be even harder for Royal Mail to get the takers to do overtime.
