As bad as that is...if they are adamant on issuing regardless of circumstances it's arguably kinder and less stressful than the current pantomime of sitting in front of an idiot with nothing between the ears, attempting to defend yourself when the outcome and penalty is already decided by a pre-programmed algorithm.

Obviously the ideal would be to be able to have reasonable ongoing (pre, during and post absence) conversations with someone who is intelligent enough to consider the potentially wide and varied range of individual circumstances and contributing factors.

Obviously rather than putting effort in to employing and encouraging and promoting intelligence in people management it's just easier to let a computer do it.

Not sure if its still relevant but about 20 years ago I was advised by my union never refuse to sign a stage warning as regardless of whether u sign it or not the stage will still b issued and then its very difficult for the union to get it removed from your records. Instead I was advised to sign it but state on the form that your signing under duress and that u feel u have been unfairly treated then it will have to b investigated by hr b4 the stage would b issued .

I was told the opposite and didn’t sign mine as I didn’t Agree, you can’t appeal stage 1and 2 which is ludicrous and can only put in a grievance against the manager issuing

It's 'supposed' to be within a reasonable time frame.
You can ask for it to be backdated to the last day of your sick if they are taking the piss.

I got a stage 1 and refused to sign as I didn't agree with it, got issued anyway.

It does happen, RM is legally obliged to look at mitigation if it comes under the Equality Act.

I refused to sign a managers decision after a customer complaint & two fact finding interviews, that was four years ago, never heard anything since

I had a sit down meeting with the Com where they scribbled some notes down and I then asked do I have to sign anything? they said, not now that will be later... couple of days later the COM was clearing the desk out! gone!!

Hopefully they took that paperwork with them seeing as there gaffer screwed them over!
