A STOURBRIDGE postman is planning to cycle 60 miles a day for 60 days to celebrate his 60th birthday and raise cash for charity.

Steve Gould, aged 59, hopes to raise £3,600 - £1 per mile - for Parkinson’s UK as his close friend and former colleague, Pete Martin, has been living with the condition for many years.

Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world, and currently there’s no cure. It affects around 145,000 people in the UK and has more than 40 symptoms associated with it from tremors to pain to anxiety.

Steve said: “Pete was diagnosed with Parkinson's when in his early 40s and I have seen how much the condition has affected his life. He was a fit, active, family man, and now he struggles with everyday tasks.

“I hope the money I raise will support research into better treatments and help find a cure for Parkinson's.”

Steve will begin his challenge on Saturday July 1.

He has planned various routes from his Stourbridge home and he hopes friends, family, and members of the community will join him for parts of the ride.

He said: “I’ve recently bought a 1963 bike and I am planning to complete my final ride of the challenge on it. That will be my 60th ride in 60 days on a 60-year-old bike!”
