The bench merging trial does not involve sequencing all items, it simply means that instead of putting the existing sequence mail into a frame you would merge the manual with the sequence at the DO.

This would obviously still involve some indoor time but as well as not spending time putting the sequence in the frame you would also not have to pull it back out again.

To be honest it sounds like a messy s**t show but I've no doubt they'll make it work in principle and we'll have to clean up the mess.

It'll be an absolute messy s**t show, anyone can see that the extra time taken to insert items in the correct place when you can't put them straight in exactly where they go like on a frame will far outweigh the time saved by not having to use a frame, I'm sure we're all fully aware that mail has reduced somewhat but I think they actually believe their own hype that it's all but disappeared.

The best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour.
RMs past behaviour doesn’t bode well for sticking to any agreements in the future.
I still don't get this one year on.......RM pulled out of the agreement because the agreement allowed them to do that if there was national IA. There were many posts about a legally binding agreement and if RM "walked away" why didn't the CWU take them to court? It was because they used the very same agreement to walk away.
How the CWU allowed RM to put such a clause in an agreement is totally beyond me??? :d'oh!

If I was negotiating I would have said OK you can have such a clause but in return we also want a clause added stating that all future annual payrises will match inflation or 2%, whichever is greater.

If our pay keeps up with inflation that takes away 80% of the reason for IA
One of the paydeals did indeed have that in the Agreement surprisingly Royal Mail decided to ignore it and do as they always do what is most profitable

The time doing those two processes is minimal compared to trying to merge post into the sequenced, no idea where you''d even start if you weren't totally familiar with the round. Where do you cut "Acadia Cottage" if there's no frame showing the street order of all the named properties?

They will not go back on revisions or anything else they have implemented by riding roughshod over common sense . because they promised the markets they would cut 10,000 jobs and implement revisions in every office. As for anyone having a plan B , as Mike Tyson once said “ everyone has a plan until they’re punched in the face”. There is no plan , B or otherwise.

Exactly. And what about small packets that normally go in the frame, or loose in bags with your mail?

And how long would it take to tie up, awkwardly trying to pull bundles out of a rammed tray without dropping stuff everywhere?

If we had to prep this way I reckon it would take me about 4 hours, compared to the current 2.

These ideas are thought up by people who have no idea - absolutely none - about what the job involves.

How the hell does it take you even 2 hours to prep 1 walk?

This is exactly right. I am past the point of caring about quality of service. Let them trial anything they want. As long as I can turn up on time and finish on time, I will do whatever the f**k I am asked in between those hours.

It'll probably be down to how much money RM can make by merging DOs and selling DOs off as a result

I start at 7am on a shared duty, it takes 2 to 2hrs 30 to get it all prepped and in the van, I do most of the prep with the part time helping the last 30 mins, I think there are around 80 shared duties and around half of those take about 30 minutes less to prep :Very Happy

Why is it? Job satisfaction went out the door years ago and so did the pride in it. Royal Mail or the regulator aren’t interested in quality of service and nor are some of the public.

It’s just a job now there is no pride in it anymore. The better you are at the job the more they expect you to do personally my number one concern is pay. It sad that it has turned into that cause at one point the postie was a big part of the community.
