Stroud MP Siobhan Baillie has written to the Royal Mail to express widespread concerns across the district about the poor frequency of postal deliveries.

Residents contacted the MP to tell her they are sometimes receiving post just once-a-week.

Many have missed medical appointments, college offers, online deliveries, medicine, SEND information and even cancer treatment appointments.

Areas affected include Berkeley, Woodchester, Eastcombe, Slad Valley, Nailsworth and Stroud itself.

Other areas that have also complained are: Stonehouse, Cainscross and Brimscombe.

“Royal Mail is obligated to offer a six-day a week delivery service and in pretty much all of the district this does not appear to be happening in any way we could describe as regularly,” said said the Stroud MP.

“It is unacceptable that some areas are telling me they are receiving post just once a week.

“I have written to Royal Mail outlining the issues and asking the company to work on putting it right and to explain to me what is going wrong, how it will communicate to customers and when it will improve.

“I also pointed out the waste of time and financial cost of missed appointments has a direct impact on the NHS, other patients and the taxpayer funded public services. In a time of an NHS backlog this is particularly disappointing.”

She explained that despite the complaints many people have warm words for the posties on the ground but they are concerned the system is not working.

“Post men and women in Stroud district are highly valued by me and quite a few emails I have received specifically praised their local postie or stated how much they missed retired posties who served them for so long.”

She added that discussions were taking place in parliament due to the CEO of Royal Mail resigning and she asked for people to continue to feed in their experiences to her office as that will help form an accurate picture.

Technically it was under Cameron's centre-right Conservative Party and Clegg's centrist Liberal Democrats (basically a coalition government formed May 2010) that sold it off. All starting with the Postal Services Act 2011 (https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/765).

If you look up the Cabinet Ministers in place at that time there are really only a sprinkling of Lib Dem members. Mostly Tory though, but yes...Dr Cable is there as Lib Dem and the Secretary of State for Business and Trade.
