Shovelling Parcels
So it seems Royal Mail is going to be the biggest ever purchaser of snow shovels in June - as it deems this the best way to move to yorks being sent out to ALL delivery offices with the newer plastic sleeves.
The shovels are supposed to aid manual sorters in getting to parcels at the bottom of these yorks- with a full Safe Working Instruction and video to be briefed shortly.
I’m not impressed.
Many others on workplace are not impressed.
This is seriously something the CWU need to jump on and put a stop to immediately.

Re: Shovelling Parcels
Yep... They admitted these new sleeves cause back injury. But we're keeping them because we've bought them.

Re: Shovelling Parcels
As the other two hubs come online (eventually) and more and more MCs get PSMs, you're going to see them a lot more as old style sleeves AFAIK aren't compatible with the machines

Re: Shovelling Parcels
The bottom on the plastic ones and newer red sleeves are around ankle height, neither “bounce” back to hip height like the old ones.
Both are guaranteed to wreck your back eventually and they’re also unproductive when used manually.

"Old style" sleeves (presumably you mean ones with tops as opposed to new ones without) are absolutely compatible with PSMs.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑27 May 2023, 21:32As the other two hubs come online (eventually) and more and more MCs get PSMs, you're going to see them a lot more as old style sleeves AFAIK aren't compatible with the machines
One of the newer ones with the white corrugated lining on a bare york seem to be mostly damaged either on arrival or shortly after...

Re: Shovelling Parcels
Who's seriously going to use a shovel, unless they've back problems etc and can't physically bend down, RM must know virtually everybody is going to be bending down to pick up the packets remaining in the bottom of the new sleeves. Meanwhile the CWU are once again totally silent on another issue effecting it's members.

It’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s a joke anymore.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

Re: Shovelling Parcels
Does the use of these in each individual site need signed off by either an area or local H&S representative? If so, and it isn't signed off, what do these sites do when yorks start arriving?
