RMCtv : CWU delays ballot on the Business Recovery, Transformation and Growth Agreement
CWU delays ballot on the Business Recovery, Transformation and Growth Agreement
Today we have been informed that the CWU has decided to delay the start of the ballot on the Business Recovery, Transformation and Growth Agreement.
The CWU has said that it is delaying the ballot because it wants assurances from Royal Mail that we are committed to working together to deliver the agreement and improve quality.
We can give those assurances today.
We are 100% behind the agreement, and are committed to the IR framework. We want to put the difficulties of the past year behind us and work together to get Royal Mail and Parcelforce back to winning again. This agreement provides our best opportunity to do that:
It will provide employees with more job security and a pay rise
Improve our services and quality for customers, and
It’s good for the environment, allowing us to reduce our reliance on air.
But we must be clear that this is the best deal we can offer.
There is no room for further negotiation.
And we cannot go back to a position where we are going back round with the CWU to renegotiate targets that were previously agreed – and importantly are crucial to the survival of this company.
Our customers are worried and losing patience
As you will have seen in our full year results last week, our financial situation remains serious. The agreement is our best chance of turning around the business, getting back to profitability, and protecting jobs.
But every day of delay creates more risk for the future of our company.
Our large retail customers are making decisions about their carriers now. We are fighting to keep that business with Royal Mail and Parcelforce – but more uncertainty makes it difficult to convince them to put their business with us.
We already lost 4% of our market share to our competitors last year. We can’t afford to lose any more.
We fully support this deal, and we hope that CWU members accept it in the forthcoming ballot. In the event that the ballot is not passed, the need to change doesn’t go away. We will still need to move forward with changes at pace so that we can deliver the services our customers need, improve our productivity and turn our company around from being loss-making.
But without a positive ballot, we cannot pay our people the pay rise that we have agreed with CWU. That is not what any of us want. And it’s why we need to get the agreement passed in a ballot as soon as we can.
Meeting with the CWU on Monday
On Monday we held a meeting with all the Regional Operations Directors, senior operational leaders, CWU Divisional Reps and the CWU leadership.
It was not an easy meeting. It’s clear we have a lot of wounds to heal, and there is a lot of trust to rebuild. We have to find better, more agile, ways of working together if we are to make this agreement a success. And we’re committed to doing that.
We gave our assurances on Monday that:
We want to work with the CWU on any future revisions and realignments and that we will take account of unit by unit circumstances in ensuring we have efficient, fair and balanced workload.
We are looking to increase permanent headcount in certain offices, and reduce our use of agency staff. We know that having a permanent dedicated workforce is best for quality and our customers. And it’s what sets us apart from our gig economy competitors.
We want to work with the CWU nationally and locally to improve quality of service. That was our commitment under section 2.5 of the agreement, and we stand by it. Starting yesterday in Bristol, we are running ‘village halls’ with all managers over the next three weeks to ensure we are all focussed on improving our quality of service, and the CWU have been invited to those sessions. We are also exploring options for other joint working and communications as we speak. But getting this agreement passed is a key part of improving the quality of service for our customers, and we can’t lose sight of that.
We will jointly provide delivery offices with their proposed start and finish times.
Looking ahead
It is down to all of us to secure this agreement, and make sure we can move forward.
The agreement gives us a clear path towards a more competitive and profitable Royal Mail. You can access all the information you need relating to the agreement on our microsite here: https://www.myroyalmail.com/rm/transformation
But it is critical that we move ahead with this ballot so we can turn around our business, improve quality of service for our customers and give our people the pay rise and greater job security they deserve.
And time is not on our side.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

There you go. A no vote would mean no pay rise. Spiteful bandits.

If RM gave CWU 100% assurance on agreements
Why the f**k has the CWU suspended the ballot
Someone is telling lies

The union, if I am getting this right, want and think that they can re-evaluate and moderate the absurd revisions that have been put in place.
That, they think is written and agreed within this current negotiators agreement.
Royal Mail however say no, what is in place is in place and not up for scrutiny or review.
So, they can't even agree on what's in the agreement.
It's a VOTE NO.

Why would anybody look forward to strike days we tried that and it got us nowhere unless people are prepared to withdraw their labour until an acceptable solution is found then it is a waste of time just work your hours and go home.

But what are/will our hours be Billy?
It isn't that simplistic.
A lot of us have other responsibilities, children, dependants that we have to attend to.
You can obviously just go home... Minimum impact .
