Police also received a report of a non-injury road traffic collision in the area that officers believe is linked to the matter. A man in his 30s from West Devon was later arrested on a number offences including theft of a vehicle.

In a full statement, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police told DevonLive: "Police were called just before 7pm on (May 21) following reports of the theft of a Royal Mail works van in Okehampton. "We also received a report of a non-injury road traffic collision in the area that we believe is linked to this matter. Police searches took place with support from NPAS and detained a man in connection to this matter just before 9pm.

"A man in his 30s from West Devon was arrested on a number offences including theft of a vehicle. He remains in police custody."

Devon and Cornwall Police’s dedicated No Excuse road safety team took to Twitter to claim that the suspect was found 'asleep' at the wheel. In a statement on Twitter, a spokesperson wrote: "Report of dangerous driving of this Royal Mail van revealed it had been stolen in [Okehampton] area - located with [Alliance ARV] and [NPAS south west].

"Suspect found asleep at the wheel - he was wanted for six other thefts - arrested and remains in custody."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
