Most places it'll be fibre to the green box in the street then copper to your router. It'll probably take a fair while for the phone companies to install the fibre from the green boxes all the way to people's routers. Don't know about Sky boxes but Virgin ones you have a connection to the copper incoming for live TV and a separate broadband connection via the router for any on-demand type stuff

From experience VDSL or FTTC is awful, a slight line fault is amplified because of the extra speed. I think of it as oil on the road. we use to fix faults by lowering speeds. It has been completely removed in my city (or very close). But even with FTTC, the copper to the cabinet is redundant once the phones switch over, and the telecommunications company saves big on tech support and engineers.

Where I live Virgin have already started migrating a few people over to VoIP but it's still copper to the cabinet

On my wage slip it says nothing about a internet link to get our wage slips, it just says about using a mobile app, but I can’t use my mobile for apps.
I have a laptop so I can use the internet but can not be forced to use a smart phone surely.
