Retiring end of next week, given up on lump sum & back pay even though I supported all strikes. CWU have stretched it out so will be very surprised to get anything.

The CWU have managed to save royal mail some money by dragging out the ballot. If it ends up being a Yes, many of those taking vr will have missed out and those retiring in the next few weeks too.

It has been a shower of an exercise in self-harm!

Surely if the effective date is 1 April then anyone employed for the period up to their retirement date will get what is owed for that period.

IF it is voted in then I guarantee we also get stitched up regarding no backdated pay to 1st April 23...so losing out on roughly 10-12 weeks, pittance I know but Royal Mail will probably hold this pay back aswell

I'm not sure. My wife retired while the company she worked for were still in negotiations for their pay rise. When it was eventually agreed, she emailed their HR department and asked for the amount she was due be paid to her as she was still in their employment for some of that time. The company agreed and she was paid the amount t of the rise, pro rata.

That is also what I found out from various sources including Citizens Advice. If you were employed when a pay rise took effect but have since left you can claim back pay till the the day your employment stopped. So if the pay rise is wef 1 Apr and the retirement date is 1 July you can claim three months back pay.

I seem to remember the last pay agreement had a cut off date. If you were employed by rm after that date you were entitled to back pay, if you'd left beforehand, you weren't.

Delay retirement for a few weeks until everything is settled and paid out then give a weeks notice and enjoy your well deserved retirement years.
