It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

It's most likely a sign that he's effectively left the business and is now on gardening leave?

I would agree. He has resigned but has a lot of sensitive business information. Until October he is bound by contract to business confidentiality and his knowledge of RM is going stale between May and October.

RM is protecting itself by have IT kill off his access to all business information - his email access has probably gone too and even access to his office and various buildings. From now until October he's on full pay and available to advise the new CEO but he probably won't be asked into work and there is no expectation from RM that he has to do anything apart from attend whatever specific meetings the board requires.

Very unusual behaviour. I think it’s a condition of area management upwards that you behave like that.

Last week an area manager phoned a postie who had only been sick for 1 day with anxiety, saying they had to come back to work. This kind of behaviour will only lead to more sick and the real risk of staff being able to claim against the business if they end up feeling forced out.

This is like how my grandparents told me when they heard World War Two was over.
