The board will want a period of calm (before the next storm) so I doubt they will go for another hatchet man straight away. Personally I think the next changes will be targeting the USO and maybe incorporating the next pay deal around the reduced full time hours (35) which should have already happened….
The SWW really should have been in this deal all year round and once the seasonal variations are in, RM are going to be incredibly reluctant to take them away. You only have to look at the longs and shorts that we have been doing for years.
It's more likely that the company will keep bumping up the postage price on letters and the USO will be targeted indirectly which is why deliveries are constantly failing. The company are saying that it is due to our financial position but the reality is that parliament have already knocked them back twice and have had OfCom look into the company's finances.
But I agree that the board will want a period of calm. A lot of what RM wanted is already in this deal that the Union are desperate to sell to their members. The future of the postal service is already here as they can now recruit lower paid staff on reduced terms and conditions. That will enable us to compete and make quite substantial savings once many of the older long serving posties have left.
