Re: CWU Has Sold US OUT on Sick Pay and IHR
If anyone thinks AR1 & 2 are not going to be issued automatically then they should think again ,managers are told to issue as the rule as opposed to the exception.
As for no compulsory redundancies ,from what I can see there is never going to be a need to make people compulsory redundant as they are always oversubscribed when they offer redundancies.
Vote how you want and according to your view of the deal , good or bad ,just don’t believe either side’s PR spin.

richietns wrote: ↑05 May 2023, 17:30Problem is as Mr Walsh said they can bring EA in to play as we've already seen especially if they are actually losing money year on year, saying ovcourse they have money doesn't wash with alot of people, the fact the union agrees they haven't does make one think maybe there isn't.
Parliament refused royal mail's request for a 5 day USO in January and they looked into royal mail's financial position. With the exception of last year, since 2017/18 royal mail made a profit.
OfCom have said that a 5-10% profit margin would be a reasonable "commercial rate of return". If we include GLS into the equation which royal mail own as part of IDS, it achieved this figure for 2020/21 and 2021/22.
If royal mail push for administration it is up to the government to decide. They could always accept what royal mail have always wanted - a reduction of the USO and that is something that the union don't want as it means job losses. But the biggest threat to our jobs is the fact that royal mail are driving us towards the gig economy with a cheaper workforce. RM know that is how GLS works and makes a decent profit and they want us to be more like them.
*It's only my opinion* but I believe the board have threatened to sell off GLS if they can't make royal mail profitable. They have set the ball rolling with the creation of IDS last year. Obviously it's blackmail but the Union are between a rock and a hard place. Why else would they have agreed all these changes of a two tier workforce, reduction in sick pay, later starts/finishes and the seasonal variation. What we are conceding is massive and it's probably more than just protecting the privileges of senior reps.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Listening to Dave Ward on the CWU live last night it seems the Union are starting to lean to a reduction of a 6 day service with the Saturday being stood down.

Ile ask again in what way are we being bullied because they are pushing the yes vote plenty on here saying vote no is that also bullying.77SAMPOST77 wrote: ↑05 May 2023, 17:01A pathetic agreement that gives us a very poor pay rise and reduces our terms and conditions ,aiden01 wrote: ↑05 May 2023, 16:50In what way are we being bullied. we are being asked to vote on an agreement between cwu an rm its simply a yes or no.. no bullying involved.77SAMPOST77 wrote: ↑05 May 2023, 16:46It is worth voting no as it is a cut in our terms and conditions ,aiden01 wrote: ↑05 May 2023, 16:38Where have they said they are doing away with ihr.its in the agreement its down to 16 weeks so not doing away with it. i don't like it being cut but hardly worth voting no over it.postslippete wrote: ↑05 May 2023, 16:07Those on long term sick are considered a problem to the company because they want to do away with IHR.
You obviously agree with this because you're voting for these changes.
We do not all give in to bullies like you do aiden .
Royal mail and now the union as well are trying to bully us with pathetic propaganda , such as theres no money (unless you are management)
and the we might go into administration nonsense ,
The management at Royal mail are making no concessions nor are the union top brass ,
You can roll over and accept all rubbish they throw at you aiden but i am made of sterner stuff .

Martin, you and the rest of the CWU top table, have been well and truly led up the garden path by Thompson and his gang.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑03 May 2023, 18:02No one has sold anyone out.
Royal Mail were going to impose all the changes in sick at the end of May. They had already trained their managers up on it. They claim sick pay costs them 200 hundred million per year and is higher at 8.5% then it was during Covid.
The choice for the union was did we allow them to impose it by executive? Or did we try and modify those changes.
At any given time only 20% of the workforce is ever impact by the 3 changes in the sick procedure. Do you believe the other 80% would have taken more strike action to stop those changes ??
Instead we modified the changes by
1. 55% of those 20% who have more than than one sick never have a third absence so we reduce the SSP to just 2 days for the second absence.
2. That if sick reduces from 8% to 5.5% for 6 months then for the next 6 months SSP would be removed.
3. That the joint working parties would work to try and find solutions for some of periods of sick. For example the October half term holiday sickness went to to 12% so this is a potentially holiday issues rather sick so can we adjust the half term leave spread. Other issues will be can we support mental health.
4. That the first and second stage warnings would not be automatically issued as they originally wanted.
5: The agreement gives a minimum amount of ill health retirement an individual would get which would also include 12 weeks leave of notice and any outstanding annual leave. It is a reduction on the current agreement but Royal Mail were going to impose that for every week you were sick leading up to your ill health retirement your compensation would be reduced by one week.
The rest of the current attendance remains including accidents on duties , dog bites and those covered by the equality act.
So if you deciding to vote down the agreement on the attendance procedure your going to get worse imposed.
This is why It is important members are fully updated on why the CWU believe this is the best agreement which can be negotiated.
If members choose to reject it then that is their right but please go into it with your eyes wide open and Royal Mail are legally obligated to introduce a business plan without or without an agreement to avoid administration.
The difference between those two positions is that there is a price associated to an agreement with the union and that is worth to Royal Mail changing their position on almost every issuing reducing their predicted savings on each aspect of the agreement.
Or if they is no agreement then they will possibly go back to their original plans as that will produce more savings even without the support of the workforce or union.
That is the choice you have.
Anyone who thinks we going to get the members out like before Christmas is dreaming. Even on this site you had many posters demanding a vote just before Good Friday when talks had broken down and Royal Mail came out and said that was the end of the road and there was no deal.
Instead we held our nerve and got further concessions on later starts , sick pay , new entrants , job security and data use.
I lost count of how many times our area rep was told, it's not about money, we were more concerned about the absolute hell our jobs have become, and how vital it was that the union didn't allow those bastards to erode our terms and conditions further.
The stand out loss we have incurred in this latest dross deal negotiated for us, is the sick pay.
To allow those bastards to erode our sick pay, giving them the inch they need now, to take the mile they really want later, is just unforgiveable.
Remember the inch you gave those bastards when the union agreed to absorbtion?
It'll only be on the lightest day of the week, they whined.
Look at it now. Every bloody day, even at Christmas, and the bastards don't care how much you have on your own walk, the absorbtion has to be done regardless. Every bloody day, arguing the toss with those w*****s.
They eventually took that bloody mile on absorbtion, and they will again with the sick pay.
One day in the not-too-distant future, postal workers will wake up to find only statutary sick pay, that's as sure as night follows day.
And as for the two-tier workforce, well, words fail me.
No union worth it's salt, should ever allow that to happen in their members workplace. Never, ever.
And, I don't care if some pratt wants to make an issue of my use of the English language, I have to say, it will be a massive No from me, when my ballot arrives.

Re: CWU Has Sold US OUT on Sick Pay and IHR
I said it many times but was contradicted....Dave Ward puffing his chest out live on social media / YouTube etc with one liners such as "we will win this dispute, no doubt", "win the ballot-win the dispute" did the unions cause a lot of harm and no good. Quite frankly it was shocking coming from someone with his experience when he could see that this dispute was like no other dispute had ever been in the past.
The Ivory Towers would have been watching and listening, and their "within 4 walls" response would have been "that's what you effing think mate".
Why do you think Ward, Furey and Plank Webb have virtually gone to ground now? They know full well that they haven't delivered for the members, but will NEVER admit so. When you hear their selling of the deal....Royal Mail have moved on this, on that, on the other....have a look. They have barely moved at all!
The union have negotiated a sick pay policy so complicated that not only would it take someone of Stephen Hawking's ability to work it out, it won't last 5 minutes anyway, as RM will simply bulldoze over it if they wish.
This never ending fighting will NEVER cease.....unless you leave the company. Take note of all the long serving, institutionalised, old school know the job inside out posties with 20/30+ years service who have left and say it's the best thing they have done....THEY are the ones to take note of.
For those who will always think this constant fighting will end....good luck - you will need it in abundance.

If I'm going to be really pedantic then Royal Mail "created" a name change and called it IDS. I often use the figure of speech to underline its overall significance, but I'm glad you scrutinised my post and brought it to my attention!
And there was a threat to sell GLS even though there was no initial intentions to cross-subsidy.
The explicit threat from the boardroom is to break the group into two if a deal can’t be done on how Royal Mail runs itself. “We will look for significant operational change or split the company,” says the chair, Keith Williams.
