I know how collective agreements work to make changes to contracts - I’m talking about if we didn’t agree.

If there was no agreement and Royal Mail told us all we were to work two hours a week more for no extra pay but get the time back next summer and we refused what would happen?

How would they enforce it?
It's not nothing to do with if we agree, surely? The CWU are our union, and negotiate on our behalf and that then gets put to a ballot. If the majority accept then it happens. Solidarity works both ways, comrade.

Im saying if there was NO agreement! :arrrghhh

i.e if the union hadnt come to an agreement with RM or if we didnt vote to accept what the union have endorsed and recommended us to

Without an agreement, it makes it very very difficult for RM to push ahead with their changes but the narrative we are being spun is that if we choose not to accept the deal - they can push ahead with them regardless.

Im asking how they would be able to enforce changes such as annualised hours/seasonal variation without the collective agreement

We were told only months ago RM were desperate for an agreement and needed the agreement and yet now are being told they will just go ahead and bring in their changes via executive action anyway even if its not agreed. That doesnt add up.

The only way RM can get us to work extra this winter for no extra pay but get the time back next summer is if they get that agreement. Let us not be fooled into thinking that they force such changes through easily without that agreement.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Nothing in the agreement is not legal.

This is a collective agreement and the CWU is the recognised union for CWU grades.

In any case Royal Mail can give I’d they choose 3 months notice of any a changes they want to make.

Seasonal variations are not illegal, if It was almost every car plant would be breaking the law.

It is a consultative ballot because it is in our rule book.

The facts are the union reached the end of the road in negotiations, nothing else could be achieved so we have put that to the members to decide with a recommendation to accept but the members will decide.

That is what unions do. The RMT put a pay deal to their members without a recommendation and got heavily criticised by members because signal workers wanted the agreement and others did not.

The RCN recommended an agreement which was rejected by the members and now they have to reballot.

It was unions do.

Actually the whole agreement is legally unenforceable as it stands, for a simple reason, which the Union should know.
But on the seasonal variation, Why has the Union accepted conditions which fall below the protections built into the Employment rights act 1996. What the hell do the Union think they are doing giving away our statutory rights, OH I forgot, they did this before when they removed our right to strike. How did that go Martin?

Thing is Grammarly is a tool for those who use it I don't.
But I am a free thinker on here and I type every word not just a bot on here.
As to the agreement and it legality one thing if it rejected they would have a hard time implementing it.

Acca, you could be right. If we agree to this (Vote yes) then our contract's will be changed, but if not, then what will happens?
Martin Walsh needs to reply to your inquiry about this, and needs to answer truthfully.
I was voting yes, but I'm starting to waiver now, as I believe it's Royal Mail that needs this agreement more than we do.

Contracts of employment don’t work like that Acca for example when I joined it was compulsory overtime at Christmas written into your contract of employment.

Their is a term implied terms and also collective bargaining may change your contract.

Laws like the working time directive will change your contract.

Working 15 weeks 2 more hours per week and 15 weeks 2 hours less is not illegal or every wallington or long and shorts or shorter Saturdays would be.
There is also something called Custom and Practice.
