Martin Walsh's 15 gains
Martin Walsh has put out a useful list of all the gains we have made in the dispute, where we “have changed the companies position “, summarising the leadership’s argument.
https://www.facebook.com/CWULondon/post ... zdX8CHBCHl
It is actually shorter and bittier than you’d have thought, highlighting how little positive there is in this agreement.
PSN = Posties Say NO comment
1. Up to 3 hour later starts. 17:00 last letter delivery.
60-90 minutes, and 30 minute flexibility beefed up (the new norm?),
PSN: up Last letter is now 16:30 in the agreement
2. Processing and network duties moving up to 3 hours later.
PSN: How late are they moving?
3. Compulsory Sundays paid at Monday to Saturday rates.
PSN: Not a new gain, Royal Mail had dropped compulsory Sundays by the end of the December strike. And for Royal Mail it’s a small price to pay for getting One Big Parcel service in.
4. Owner drivers in Royal Mail picking up the growth in parcels
PSN: Dropped, because we have accepted restructuring
5. Annualised hours linked to scan in scan out deciding your pay.
We have seasonal pay instead, with the flexibility element removed (except the 30 minute flexibility)
6. Flexi bank so you don’t have a finish time you have to complete. Additionally if you finished earlier determine by your PDA/ Siso then they could determine when that hours would be worked.
Flexi banking was the same as annualised hours, which was flexi banking plus seasonal hours really (#5 above)
7. 5 Mail Centre closures.
No bankable guarantees, and if the ones they gave hold, less than two years , not
much security there. Is it believable that the single large parcel network will not see mail centre rationalisation?
8. Their best and final agreement only gave a no compulsory redundancies agreement until March 2023.
Two years reprieve, but can drive people out on worse attendance procedure and ill health retirement.
9. The future of Parcelforce would have been unlimited owner drivers.
Gain, but that’s because merging Parcelforce into the single large parcel network is agreed.
10. All legacy allowances to be removed including RRIS which for over 30 thousand members would be a pay cut ranging from £6 to £35 per week.
PSN: Gain, but the newer you are, the less this affects you.
11. Pay was organically dependent on the change being successfully introduced. The lump sum was also dependent on change being introduced.
PSN: Pay deal is crap anyways!
12 individual performance standards linked to PDA OA and 100 BSi indoors. Replacement of the NCI procedure to allow individuals to be sacked for poor performance.
PSN: The guarantees on data for discipline (performance, conduct) are not clear.
What is a real negative is the deal has broken our deep red line that data can’t be used for conduct, it can now be used for gross misconduct in the deal.
There are reports of postal workers who do not take enough mail out being conducted for willful delay ie a gross misconduct offense basically for performance. In other words, the company has leeway to drive a coach and horses through these kinds of limits.
13. No more disagreements or negotiations at local level on revisions etc.
PSN: Reps who don’t agree all the revisions, indoor cuts, flexibility will simply be overridden by officials.
14. New entrants not part of the collective bargaining and a stand alone workforce.
PSN: This is a gain of course but it is not clear if the new starters from December are on the same T&Cs as older staff (section 9), and what the “new grade” will mean remains unclear, other than compulsory Sundays.
15. Fleet work outsourced and this part of the business run down.
PSN: Restructured instead with single large parcel network?
Martin ends this, “Yes the agreement is not perfect but anyone who believes the CWU and our members strike action has not moved Royal Mail significantly on a number of issues is wrong.”
The real point is that the gains of the deal are connected to restructuring with its own risks, and small compared to the huge concessions.
Many issues are thrown into the future eg mail centres, Parcelforce and the new single large parcel network.
Martin leaves out some of the major negatives of the deal: where is the 20-35 minute indoor work cut for deliveries, 10% over three years real pay cut, or attendance procedure or ill health retirement cuts?
Lastly there are real grey areas or outright negatives avoided ie data and gross misconduct, new starters terms and conditions and the two tier workforce.
Posties vote no! And attend the meeting Thursday evening:

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Given the number of people claiming they are leaving the union because of this agreement they will lose their positions anyway.77SAMPOST77 wrote: ↑03 May 2023, 15:50Martin like the rest of the CWU are waving white flags to save there own privileged positions .

So that claim is invalid.
Bothering to explain why they have agreed what they have agreed is something they should be doing. If they didn't you would be complaining.
Strange how people who were so pro union and turned this site into a toxic wasteland for anyone who didn't agree with them are now turning on their masters. Puppy eat puppy as Adam Ant almost said.

They promised too much and were always going to deliver very little.
Only the deluded thought otherwise.
But I think the little they have delivered is quite good in the circumstances.
I think it will be sufficient for the majority.
There is always a vocal minority on here who expect the stars and are always upset.

I never expected the stars just a decent fair deal .
And calling people deluded just because they do not agree with you is a touch arrogant .

Re: Martin Walsh's 15 gains
In June we may find that the majority will see that what they have been offered is a decent fair deal.
Will they all be wrong?
