It's never going to be a public service again. You flog yourself to death for the fact your lucky to have a job. You get no reward and then they give it all away and take the p I s s out of you. Not sustainable on anyone in particular our bodies. For what they are expecting us to vote yes on deserves at least 15% so at least we can save enough for when our bodies pack in with zero pay off.

Any assurances in this agreement about how they might use the info is already guaranteed to be lies.
I had a very interesting conversation with my manager last week. He more than confirmed that they can and do see live tracking data and have complete views of much more info. All this despite ST directly lying to parliament when asked about this. If he is prepared to lie in contempt of parliament and under oath, there is no chance they will not use all the information they will collect on you in any way they like. They already do collect it, but cannot really use it because we do not yet have any significant performance measures.

Flash man your manager is not telling the truth. Royal Mail decline to pay the money needed to have in time tracking. Instead the PDA gives the previous day’s information the next day.

Parcelforce have real time recording not Royal Mail. Royal Mail would need to invest a sizeable amount of monies which they don’t have to get this.

Ask your manager to show you in flight tracking ? I bet he can’t as it don’t exist of Royal Mail would have used it for estimated delivery times etc.

I have had a phone conversation with my manager a while back were he was able to give me my precise location and would I help a new start who was close by with his PDA. Now this was real time, so somehow we are being live tracked contrary to your explanation Martin. To be fair it doesn’t bother me either way as I have nothing to hide.

Individual performance?

That with the stroke of a pen and the new agreement means that data capture will be used with performance management. And agreed with the CWU.

Royal Mail has not invested in this technology not to use it.

Because they have set no policy in stone with how that data will be used, it is open to interpretation and abuse.

Plan English and certainty is never a strong point in any joint agreement and deliberately designed that way
It already is used in Royal Mail and was agreed to by the CWU, it's just not been used in operations before - every single worker in a back office role is having their performance monitored.

How long your call lengths are, how long you spend available time, how long you spend in after call work, how many calls you escalate, how many bathroom breaks you take (there are a few managers who are real dicks about that) - how many emails you answer a day, how long each email takes, how long the email is open for.

That's how they have been able to reduce the number of resources in places like Customer Service, because they can cut things to the absolute bone with all the data they have.

This idea that the CWU won't agree to data monitoring is moot, because it already exists and they're just bringing it to Operations now - and they'll do the same in Operations.

Targets you are measured against and have to adhere to, and if you don't the 'coaching process' starts - why do you think they wanted to change the lengthy process they have now to something faster?

Once they've got the data they'll start pushing existing staff and start cutting staff numbers, to the point where they can just barely meet standards - and if they get fined for not meeting them? well if the cost of the fine is less than the cost of employing the number of staff to meet the standard, then they'll just eat the fines.

Excellent idea.
Groups of posties can get together for a rank and file committee meeting and then go and see their local solicitor.
I do hope they keep us informed of their successes. :cuppa

You don't seem to have much respect for our trade union.
I wonder why you ever joined?

Yes, I've had this as well. My line manager could pinpoint exactly where I was.

I have personally overheard management discussing in hushed tones someone's progress on delivery in terms of where the van was parked. I've heard second-hand accounts of vans taken without authorised overnight retention being located by mysterious means (presumably the Trimble). So, strictly speaking, it's true the PDA isn't being used to live-track. Yet.
The machine stops.
