Some DOs seem to be merging whole walks. Some of our sequencing batches suddenly have half the number of walks with no sign of the missing walks having been moved to other batches

That would suggest to me more walks are for the chop. These total sociopaths know no bounds.

Its not only the walk length but my walk had 21 blocks of flats with individual letterboxes taken off 2 posties rounds and put on to my round and a poor old 62 year old has to do it.
I never do any O/T as the round is unachievable without cutting corners and cut off every day but they are taking the piss

I feel for you, that is just too much. I once covered a walk with two 20 storey tower blocks and a few 4 storey blocks of flats. Up to the top in a lift on the tower blocks - no lifts in the four storey blocks. From memory - each floor of the tower blocks had 4 fire doors so 160 doors between the 2 blocks and then with the other blocks I reckon I had another 40 doors. Got home and my shoulders ached as well as my knees. The regular guy was off sick.

That was 5 years ago. Probably added at least one more tower block on to it in the last 5 years.

I have never understood why the CWU seem to totally ignore H&S aspects when in negotiations. This latest travesty just exacerbates the situation. If the company want use out in the sun at the hottest part of the day, extra breaks in a cool place and sun bloc should be in their negotiations too. Frankly It should be illegal to send us out if temperatures go above37 degrees(and probably lower if you ask a qualified doctor or medic)
It just shows what a poor job this Union have done.

Depends how you're working.
I'm doing more walking, delivering mail D2D across my duty and the partner duty.
He hasn't don a bag of mail for months.

I'm still doing packets n tracked as well.

We still can't clear, nowhere near .

After the dust has settled from the vote, the CWU should seriously contemplate opening discussion with the company about how far we are expected to walk over any given period of time, be that daily, weekly, monthly.

The sick pay and IHR terms are being attacked - the least the CWU can do is limit the damage done to our bodies which is not limited to joint injuries; it messes with your metabolism as well as being a form of physical stress.

Before all the H&S comments appear about right shoes, trollies and light bags - consider that even if you walk 11 miles a day without any bag that would still be 55 miles per week. Or two marathons!

Assuming you work 46 weeks a year and don't work any rest days that is close to 100 marathons a year. Year in, year out. And we know the consequences. Plantar fascitis, joint destruction and the rest.

There should be a limit to how much we walk.

Royal mail knows it's seriously damaging the health of its delivery staff.
That's why it has targetted reducing sick entitlement.
