Limit the Miles We Walk

After the dust has settled from the vote, the CWU should seriously contemplate opening discussion with the company about how far we are expected to walk over any given period of time, be that daily, weekly, monthly.

The sick pay and IHR terms are being attacked - the least the CWU can do is limit the damage done to our bodies which is not limited to joint injuries; it messes with your metabolism as well as being a form of physical stress.

Before all the H&S comments appear about right shoes, trollies and light bags - consider that even if you walk 11 miles a day without any bag that would still be 55 miles per week. Or two marathons!

Assuming you work 46 weeks a year and don't work any rest days that is close to 100 marathons a year. Year in, year out. And we know the consequences. Plantar fascitis, joint destruction and the rest.

There should be a limit to how much we walk.

I was just thinking the same. Our bodies are to be put under even more unreasonable pressure at the same time ill health retirement and sick pay are destroyed. How can a union, which the majority of us have supported throughout, accept this deal. They also declare within the agreement to honour the uso. That already is catastrophically not the case. We are already failing with more duties gone in a matter of weeks. What exactly is the point of accepting this deal? I don't see what reassurance is given by voting yes considering those, quite frankly, revolting things running the show are breaking already.

As if Ward and his gang of waddling old men care or have any concept of what it’s now like on delivery. We shall walk until we die on delivery as long as the CWU coffers are full and RMs biggest shareholders get a dividend.

Should be limited to 10 miles each day. If you do more - that's your choice and it should be paid on overtime.

Not only will a rule like this help reduce the impact on our bodies, it will also be a good monitor of performance. As soon as you've walked 10 miles you should be deemed as having done a fair day's work and you can go home. No manager should question your productivity if your PDA says 10 miles have been walked.

Obviously, some walks involve a lot of driving which means the postie doesn't typically walk 10 miles a day - these walks should be based on a finish time.

I find the time system best walk slower and do a good but steady pace and you will find you will do the same miles as everyone else time is the factor here once we had a 3 hour span and it went more and more. Thing is people voted to do this in agreements by not using their heads of what could happen in the future and now they find out about the shills that sold themselves out of a once good job. And now a prostitute of privatization in the postal service for it only to get ten times worse in the coming years!

The union will do nothing ,im still waiting for someone to find me a toilet stop from 8 years ago ,when the rounds got bigger it was a managers job to go and find and ask businesses if we could use their facilities ,they never did and the union never chased it up,the union are now agreeing to do longer walks and added time on top you couldn't make it up.

Its not only the walk length but my walk had 21 blocks of flats with individual letterboxes taken off 2 posties rounds and put on to my round and a poor old 62 year old has to do it.
I never do any O/T as the round is unachievable without cutting corners and cut off every day but they are taking the piss
