Was just wondering if we would have won this dispute if unite had backed us. Surely with managers on side with us, they couldn't force through these plans as easy.

I think the union should have put more effort into getting Unite on board and working together.

I wonder why unite didn't back the CWU. Surely it's in the interest of all employees and managers long term, for them not to steam roll these changes.

It just doesn't make sense, why unite would go against another union. In some ways, I think it's there fault that this appears to be a lost battle.

Be very careful what you say.
I know someone who sent a derogatory email to a company who crossed the picket line.
They complained to Royal Mail, and he was suspended then sacked.

We have been hammered ever since Royal Mail was sold off, the job increasingly harder and more things that we need to do now. Trolleys/ van share/ scrapping shared duties of 3 day weeks/ once upon a time 5am starts to where we are heading now/ the CWU haven't really gained us much, and are now almost forced to silence and given in. No union could have done anything, management voting to strike (unite) and getting blood money - look where it got them.

Apparently there was a management strike in the 70s but no one knew about it.

RM were very wary of the managers going on strike last year and quickly backed down once they were prepared to work to rule.

Constantly looking over my shoulder before they stab me in the back some of these parasites got 5% last April and £1000 bung to go with it and they never tell you this. And they don't tell this they get 6% of the savings so they git rid of one person on a 37 hour contract and you lapse that duty and inafect your giving them 11% by your own efforts!

As a lowly manager, I would suggest that Unite backing would be much like it is with the CMA: pointless.
Thanks to the recommendation by the CMA we (not I) voted in the atrocious deal posted above. Essentially the exact same deal that OPGs rejected at the beginning of this dispute.
Unite are much more militant in their rhetoric, but it's the CMA on the ground and Unite just seem to be like a sponsor on a footballers shirt.
