Yesterday I received a text message to inform me that the mail centre was offering some more VRs in addition to the ones already awarded, with twenty-four hours to express an interest to management. I arrived at work this evening to discover that Angard casuals had been called in at 11:00 am to work until midnight, and that managers were running around offering overtime to anyone who would listen. It all makes perfect sense.
Seems like we've got more casuals/agency since the realignment
And where I work, the VRs haven't started leaving yet. But as I'm one of them, I won't be around to witness the carnage.

Started a rank and file committee.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Yesterday I walked out of Royal Mail for the final time, after accepting VR. I reached the point where I was happy to be going, but a little bit sad all the same to be leaving a workplace I used to enjoy. Somewhere I felt valued as an individual, but also where there was camaraderie and we mostly worked as a team across the whole shift. All things gradually degraded beyond repair by a company that no longer has regard for any of those things. Inevitable I suppose in the present economic climate, but I hope things work out better for those RM employees who choose to remain with the company than I anticipate they will.

Have management been chasing you or have they just accepted you've gone?

I should have made it clear in the post, I accepted VR. I will amend that, if I can.

Thanks. If there's one thing we don't need, it's more drama in Royal Mail.

MC thanks. Some of my friends have made the same choice I did, some are hanging on grimly because RM still looks like the best choice they've got. I just got tired of working for a company that was undermining its own workforce and then blaming them for its failures.
