So can anyone tell me what is a good deal? All I can see from where I am standing is if we continue to strike the company goes bankrupt. A government appointed administrator even under a Labour government won't lavish us with a blank check. The letter and parcel volumes dropped significantly while the industrial action occurred. The deal their offering seems borderline reasonable, anyone who thinks we'll get a pay rise in line with 2 years of inflation is in cloud cuckoo land. Its a lot better then working for DPD or god forbid Amazon Flex.
Royal mail for start could continue to cross subsidy. Use profits generated by gls to support uso and royal mail. This something they want to stop and figures they quote do not include gls. I would say most postal services around the world are set up in such a way.

I might be wrong but royal mail has a long history being dishonest about their finances.
Cwu on other hand had no choice but to accept anything as they wasted so much time fighting for no strings pay rise. They found themselves on the brink of collapse.

In this fight there are no real winners really if we kept fighting but whatever we decide to do there are big losers - that is us postal workers, especially delivery staff.

It’s a 3 year deal at 10%, inflation for last year is likely 15% for people of our earnings, this years will probably be between 5%-10% and then the year after who knows. I don’t think anyone is expecting 25%-30% pay rise, but there should be a no strings basic pay rise and then for changes we should be given additional pay. This is 3.3% per year for a shocking reduction in our terms and conditions.

If you are happy with the deal then vote yes, I doubt you will be happy in 12 months though. I think it’s shocking and I value myself far more than this deal.
It’s a 2 year deal at 8% , why are the union banding around 10% , we’ve had 2% already which was imposed by Royal Mail last year.
2% for last year, no more in the deal
6% this year
2% next year

10% over 3 years? Correct or not?

I agree. The CWU negotiators recommended this deal. I think they know something about RMs finances that they are not allowed to share. There are some deluded people who think that there is some plot between RM and CWU to stitch up the workforce.

Can't remember if I've posted this elsewhere but imho this deal is a big stepping stone towards the gig economy

It isn't the changes to sick pay, working more hours in winter, the later starts/finishes of up to 90 minutes, 30 minutes flex and PDA management.
It's the two-tier workforce that is installed and isn't likely to change. In fact in 2 years time when most regular posties have left, there will be even more newer staff on less pay, terms and conditions as Royal Mail have said that they are still paid 10% more than the gig economy.

When the lifetime of this deal expires in two years time I would expect Royal Mail to try and push forward some more changes, in particular even later starts and the possibility of owner drivers once there are more staff on these inferior contracts and less staff involved with the Union. This is the road that Royal Mail want to go down. They want to be more like Amazon because they only see the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Anyone who believes this deal is borderline reasonable needs to give their heads a wobble. We are not going out of business anytime soon and the Union are not planning on anymore strikes.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Well by that logic let's include pay increases from 2020 onwards and call it a 15% deal.

If RM weren't going to offer backpay for 2022-2023, then it's not part of any deal. The 2% was imposed, and at the time the union said it was a disgrace. Suddenly now though it sounds good to call it a 10% pay offer. Complete sellout.

No because you’ve been getting the first 2% since last year , this was imposed by Royal Mail but now the union are actually taking credit for it so they can sell it as a 3 year deal . Going forward if the deal is voted in we will get 6% straight away and 2% next April .it’s a 2 year deal regardless of what the union say.

I don’t like to insult people but you don’t seem to be the brightest, so I’ll do it one more time. The union have been fighting for a pay rise since last April, they have now accepted that the 2% last year is all we will get. Which is a disgrace. As part of that acceptance they have agreed 6% for this year, and again for next year, they have accepted 2%.

If the union would have got us 1% more for next year, what would the deal have been? You would say 9% over 3 years but it would be 11% for 3 years.

The union would be better selling it as a 2 year deal as that would be 8% over 2 years, which is better than 10% over 3 years.

It’s the most pointless discussion I’ve had on here, but hopefully you are now better informed.

Cheers for that mastermind, the union didn’t negotiate the 2% last year , it was imposed and they’ve had no choice but accept it , they can’t claim something a disgrace and then start claiming credit for it . 8% over 2 years is the deal.

Why give up full sick pay so easily , I’ll reluctantly accept the pay offer the other terms but don’t mess about with our sick pay benefits and attendance agreements.

If sick absence improves then there is something in the agreement saying they will look at rolling back the loss of pay on second or subsequent absences.
Whether that will ever happen is debatable.
Any watering down of terms and conditions are not desirable however it still protects members if they have a serious illness or injury.
Those who have chronic illnesses that flare up over time will be affected the most.
This is probably to worst part of the agreement for me.
Disappointed it has come to this.
Their sick bill is higher than the average for businesses and granted some have abused the system, but the vast majority do not and it is a physical job so naturally sick will be higher than other jobs.
Just hope when/if sickness rates improve the union put serious pressure on the company to improve it again.
All we can realistically hope for now.

I just cannot understand why they agreed all the unecessary stuff that completely shafts us.

I mean, if RM are in fincancial trouble then we can't expect much movement on big ticket stuff like pay.

But they could have stood firm on stuff that is nothing but workforce bullying like PDA performance monitoring, absence review procedure, flex, etc etc.
In the agreement they have same protections on the PDA 'surveillance' as they did in the pathway to change.
Shouldn't be used to discipline or conduct. Reps will have to reign in guvnors that do.
But it can now be used for "supportive" interventions from management. And punishment... sorry, "coaching".

There will also be an app on our PDAs bollocking - sorry, "supporting" us to improve our performance.

It's everything RM wanted. Didn't the CWU *read* the small print, or do they just not know the reality of how RM managers interpret green-lights to bullying like this?
Yes I just went through the agreement again and granted there is allot more about performance managing and using data to plot walks and routes.
That's how interpret it anyhow.
